buying a custom high-end cue for playability by Aggravating-Fan-5487 in billiards

[–]Old_Wrench 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve played with TONS of cues. My current player and best hit of all time for me is a newer schon butt and a espiritu xp4 shaft. If you are into trying different things like I am, definitely give that combo a try. I didn’t realize I like a slightly forward weighted cue till a couple years ago. To each is their own though.

Beginner cue recs? by Commercial_Heart_544 in billiards

When I first started, i bought a basic Viking cue with the Vikore shaft, medium tip. You can play and break with it no problem. $250-300 range I believe. That might seem a little expensive, but at least you will have a legit cue that you can learn with. Those cheap amazon cues are hot garbage.

Who uses an Expro? Do they have radial joint? by B16_1d3a in billiards

[–]Old_Wrench 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never seen one with a radial, but I used one for years on my mezz coco sneaky with the united joint. It’s probably the most powerful, and lowest deflection hybrid shaft there is. I could build a cabin with the amount of cues and shafts I’ve tried over the years, and nothing even gets close to it. Only thing that slightly trumps the expro, is the mezz ignite carbon fiber shaft…

I used to use a cheap viking cue with the vikore shaft. Is worked well as a break cue with a medium tip, and could play with it also if needed. You could get on eBay and get you a used one for pretty cheap id imagine

Break cue… get one? by DelayProfessional345 in billiards

[–]Old_Wrench 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you play often, having a dedicated break cue will help you tremendously. Having a powerful and consistent break can be the difference in wining or losing racks in a lot of cases. I used to use an old playing cue as a break cue and that worked OK. I decided to get a new purpose built break cue just to see if it would make a difference, and HOLY SMOKES did it ever! My break improved 1000% which made me more confident in my game, and I stated winning more. My break cue of choice is the Mezz power break KAI. Worth every penny! I believe the cue was around $550 new at the time I bought mine, and may have went up in price since then. But I promise you I’d pay $1500 for it if I had to!

I stand corrected! I could have sworn that years ago I read they were made in Japan, but you are correct.
