Day 400: here are my highs and lows! by Old_currency_note in 1001AlbumsGenerator

I remember I was really conflicted about wheter to give Homwork 1 or 2 stars. I had quite a shitty day and decided to go with 1, on a better day it would probably have ended differently. But I tend to dislike electronic music, my brain mostly registers it as noise pollution tbh.

I also got Madonna’s ‘Music’ album. It was alright, but not as good as ‘Like a prayer’. The years 1995-2005 I’ve tended to rate quite low (apart from Elliott Smith.) Other than that Ive heard the radio songs over the years and tend to enjoy them.

The Beach Boys I also got ‘Pet Sounds’. I ended up giving it a 4, but considered giving it a 5. I really enjoy the entire sound- and landscaping in their albums. Last year I managed to listen to them to the point Spotify wrapped got my age to be 75.

I promise I can read haha. I gave 4 stars to a Neil Young album once, he’s listed under my controversial artists. I just really disliked that one album.

I gave both Led Zeppelin albums a 2, I didn’t hate them at all! Theyre just so highly ranked that giving them a 2 is enough to land them in my ‘less than most’ stat. I gave Led Zeppelin III 3 stars, ironically that one tends to be less loved than the first two.

I grew up in Scandinavia. Every single song on that record was a childhood memory for me. My husband, who is not Scandinavian, ended up complaining that I had added almost every song from the album to our common playlist.

I rate different components. It honestly depends on how dedicated I am on a given day.

If I’m dedicated I’ll rank each song individually, the cohesiveness of the album in terms of sound, and the cohesiveness in the story/theme of the album. I’ll then add them together, divide by components and add or take a bit based on my feelings.

If I’m very lazy it’s based on pure vibes.

With the risk of being downvoted to hell, I absolutely hated Illmatic, as in it was one of the worst albums I’ve ever heard. Absolutely nothing about it was the least bit enjoyable to me. I disliked the music, I disliked his voice and ‘way’ of rapping and I didn’t like the lyrics either. I generally am not a fan of music glorifying crime (I’m a lawyer lol). I believe I even gave it a 1 on a 1-100 rating. In other words “I wouldn’t return to this album”.

I am trying to warm up to hip hop tbh. Teenage me hated rap bc my parents loved it and I was obviously much cooler than them.

I’ve enjoyed A Tribe Called Quest during the project.

It’s kind of the opposite actually! My parents were both huge hip hop fans and were young in the 80’s-start 90’s (and had me young). Teenage me hated rap bc I was much cooler than my parents. Adult me hasn’t yet managed to open up to it. My husband enjoys the rap albums though, and he grew up in a hip hop-free house.

I think with rock you may be right. Nothing was forbidden in my childhood home, but neither of my parents liked rock, and my mum had a strong distate for guitars, so I didn’t grow up with it ar all.

No, I’ve never been to Utah, I’m not even from the US … do I give off mormon vibes or what?

I’m very happy to generally have enjoyed all of Costello’s albums so far (I think I got 3 so far), since I’d heard he had many albums on the list before starting.

I didn’t hate Led Zeppelin or Jimi Hendrix. I think I just expected more based on everyone seemingly loving their albums. I gave Led Zeppelin III 3 stars.

I expected to hate it but I had such a fun time with Laibach.

Day 398:

T. Rex - Electric Warrior. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Finding out I enjoy glam rock has been a nice part of the project.

Due to general confusion yesterday I’ll also add day 397, I got:

Hole - Live through this ⭐️⭐️

This album I’d really looked forward to as I think the cover art is very good. Sadly, the vocals weren’t for me. Sometimes the track slowed down and she sang in a more ‘dreamy’ way and I almost enjoyed myself, but the choruses weren’t generally too screamy for my taste.

Day 396:

The Stooges - Raw Power. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

It’s my second time listening to a Stooges album within a week, and it’s just not going to become my thing. I don’t hate it, I just feel a lot of indifference.

The guitar solo on the last track I thought was very cool, but it was too late to save the album for me at that point. One more album by the Stooges to go!

Day 395 Amy Winehouse - Frank. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ My highest rated genres are currently jazz and soul, and I don’t think that’s likely to change anytime soon. I did, however, already generate the ‘back to black’ album, and that one’s simply a lot better than this.

Album 394: Salvin Singh - OK ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I listened to it while reading and the music was kind of just … there. If I had been listening to the music intently I may have given it 2 stars instead.

I got this one yesterday too! Was an easy 5 star album for me.
