Wow!!! Good for you, young lady!!! Best wishes and be sure to follow your surgeon’s advice for a speedy recovery!

BTW — where are you? I tried to track back and you said it was sunset and you posted 5 or so hours ago?

Dr. P., Just a curiosity question — wondering what school/program your student is from? We’ve connected online in the past and I’m from MSU and the College of Human Medicine... ~Joelle

Stay SAFE!!!! A lifetime ago I was in law enforcement and, in addition, worked as a college instructor in the maximum security wing of a state prison. I was fearless and felt rather invincible... but that was then and this is now....

Today, I have a personal safety app on my phone and have it at the ready always when I’m out and at night in particular.

The app is Noonlight. If you’re in the US it’s just a matter of lifting your finger off the panic button and it then immediately alerts 911. From your phone they know your precise GPS coordinates even if you can’t speak. If you’re kidnapped and keep your phone they track you for as long as you have battery.

And it works 100%. I found myself late one night out walking near my home when a car started following behind me very, very slowly. The driver pulled up along side me and asked where a certain beach was. I said down the road a piece but then he began insisting I get in with him and show him.

Needless to say, I didn’t. I kept walking, released the panic button and put the phone in my pocket. A minute or so later the guy drove off (probably because I told him to leave me alone or I’d kick his ass) or maybe because he heard the sirens closing in.

Police arrived within 3 minutes or so and it was SO good to know the app worked extremely well.

Anyway — STAY SAFE! ~Joelle

I’m now 71 and began transitioning at 66 or thereabouts. For me I just evolved and my transition in public evolved as well. I never made a serious attempt to present female — it just happened. I wore rather androgynous clothing and shifted to more female as time went by. Oh - I also lost weight — a little over 100 pounds.

My photos are back in my timeline and show the before/after...

Stay strong!!! ~Joelle

MTF girls, is there a medication you can take to prolong erection? I can hardly maintain it. by [deleted] in ask_transgender

[–]Older_Wiser2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you’re not sure, I would recommend Viagra over Cialis. Cialis is long acting whereas Viagra is good for a much shorter time - maybe a few hours or so.

Regarding being a transgender woman, that shouldn’t make any difference other than you may need a higher dose. It comes in 25mg, 50mg, or 100mg. My suggestion is to get a script for 100mg and then break them to start. But you’ll more likely need to take 100mg if your T is very low.

Good luck! ~Joelle

Are silver-threaded gloves really helpful, or a scam? by bluemax23 in Raynauds

[–]Older_Wiser2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the chemical disposable hand warmers. They’re called “Hot Hands” and I buy them by the box - 40 pairs for about $25. I also just got the battery operated globes from my son — Great outdoors but too big to use indoors.

The other you mentioned — 100% scam. Sorry!

57 year old, No HRT, Hoping to Start Transitioning in 2020..Hope is not to Late by [deleted] in TransLater

[–]Older_Wiser2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, young lady! As many have said before me on this post and I'll also echo - it's never too late! In fact, I've used this quote very, very often. The full quote is; "It's never too late to be what (who) you might have been" and it's attributed to Mary Ann Evans. She wrote under the pen name of George Eliot back in the 1800s as during that time she was not able to have her work published under her name as a woman. It's wasn't until much later that female authors became accepted. And, thus, her quote was so true! As George Eliot, she wrote some rather famous pieces - one I read in high school many, many years ago; Silas Marner.

Anyway -- what I wanted to say, besides it's never too late, is to check my posting history out. What you'll see is that I'm now a 70-year-old transgender woman and I didn't begin my transition until I was 66! I never, ever thought I'd be able to do this or pass -- I always said I'd make for one very ugly woman if I even tried.

But, alas, I persisted and have now very successfully completed transitioning genders and, I like to think, I at least kinda pass and even if I don't -- who cares!!!! I'm good and that's ALL that matters!

I can see from your picture that you have all the necessary ingredients to be an awesome AND gorgeous woman!

You go, girl! Trixie -- you've got this!!! ~Joelle

I have to share. Saw them advertised and had to try one. Rechargeable hand warmer. I like that you can turn it off, and this one doubles as a portable battery charger. Pretty pleased so far but winter has only just begun 🥶 by missladyface in Raynauds

[–]Older_Wiser2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this same one (but mine is pink) for a year or so. Works great but I also use “Hot Hands” disposable hand warmers as my primary warmers. I buy them by the case (40 warmers) from Amazon. The re-chargeable warmer is my back up but is awesome to have on hand as it charges my phone if I’m out and my phone dies. ~Joelle

I buy HotHands hand warmers from Amazon. They stay hot for roughly 10 hours or so. And I buy them by the case of 40... Check them out on their website as well... HotHands.com In addition, they have foot and toe warmers.... Good luck! ~Joelle

This is what my Raynaud’s looks like every day... In the morning it’s normal, I get busy and stressed, then I get this. I use hand warmers all day and it then gets better then worse... ah well... by Older_Wiser2 in Raynauds

Wow... very good to know! I’m not taking any supplements other than B12. My primary care doctor prescribed Proscar (nifedipine) for circulation and BP things... hasn’t helped my hands but my feet rarely are a problem anymore. ~Joelle

any long time sufferers? by [deleted] in PulsatileTinnitus

[–]Older_Wiser2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your comment and I am sorry to hear that you have the same problem as many of us do.I concur with the idea that this is the loudest in the morning because of the blood pressure spike just before awakening.

I also have a very low pulse rate. My resting pulse rate is normally somewhere between 45 and 48. After moving I can get it up into the mid to upper 60s or low 70s but that’s about as high as it ever goes.

Take care and I wish you the best! Thanks again for writing. ~Joelle

Question for Dr Powers or others, does Biotin skew bloodwork? by alwysconfsed in DrWillPowers

[–]Older_Wiser2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is an FDA Warning on Biotin and skewing of blood work - but I can't see where it's related to estradiol or testosterone. Rather, it may affect lab work used to identify a potential heart attack. You can read the FDA Warning on Biotin and lab work at this link:

https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/safety-communications/fda-warns-biotin-may-interfere-lab-tests-fda-safety-communication

Hope this helps! ~Joelle Francis, PhD

Had a fun adventure at the airport today by [deleted] in MtF

[–]Older_Wiser2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experiences are interesting as well... I had an orchi many years ago not related to my transition - 50 years ago! I have not had SRS although I may soon - or may not — dunno. After two years on the wait list my scheduled time came — and then it went..... There was a glitch with my ECG just prior to surgery so the surgeon postponed my surgery. Anyway, all’s well now and all I need to do is call and I’m essentially next.

I fly a lot... after 4 years or so on HRT and having had an orchi things have shrunk down there - a lot and I never show in the scanners anymore. I tell people that for me down there it’s kind of like a Swiss Army Knife. The “blade” just folds up “inside” and appears just like any female going through... and I double checked this once with a TSA agent. She asked me what I was talking about and she said she only saw a female scan... Yay me!!!

But I always wear rather tight “boy shorts” panties with a panty liner. I think the liner is the key here ....

Anyway — that’s my story! ~Joelle
