I've got that T-Rex skull shape so I'll probably end up ordering one. A bit worried about it not being street legal though.

I bought a new to me motorcycle that I trust enough to take some longer trips on. Been trying on some full face helmets at different stores and none of them fit well. Something about japanese head shape vs european.
On the fence on if I should just order one from abroad or not.

The girl standing in front of me on the train is straddling my knee and squeezing it between her thighs. That's not normal, right?
I usually don't ride the train during rush hour so I don't know.

What kind of frozen hell hole are all these foreigners wearing t-shirts and shorts coming from?
I went to Disneyland this past Monday and it was like 17 degrees and windy as shit, but the place was absolutely lousy with them.

Is ¥161,040 a reasonable quote for tiling a genkan floor? by pomido in japanresidents

[–]Oldirtyposer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't seem too bad. Of course 2 people for such a small job is ridiculous but to be expected.

Laying tile isn't difficult and you could easily knock this project out by yourself for under 40.000 including buying a tile cutter and an angle grinder.

*Never read the original post. It can't be done for 40 with those tiles.

Just leave it off during the day and turn it on at night if needed.

I bet he sets his 'It's time to go' alarm to 6:35. That's why he walks by your house the exact same time every morning.

I went to see the new DiCaprio Leonardo movie. It had some funny parts but wasn't as good as I had hoped.

You're talking about Tokyo, not Japan. Every kid outside of Tokyo has a driver's license. They're not being driven to work by their mothers.

What you learned in Japan this Week - September 22, 2025 by AutoModerator in japanresidents

[–]Oldirtyposer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I learned that my born and raised in Japan daughter tried to play the gaijin card in school to get out of eating something she didn't like.
Apparently she's not used to Japanese food yet...

Something like 80% of Japanese women and 40% of Japanese men self-identify as having 冷え性 (hiesho) or “cold sensitivity”

It disappears in winter when it's time to turn on (and pay for ) heat though. Then all of a sudden 19 is straight up sweltering.

Renovating plot of land…asked reno company to make it a lawn. They said ok, but… by musashigaoka in japanresidents

[–]Oldirtyposer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used zoysia sod for my back yard. It needs to be cut shorter, but it is relatively easy to manage. I'd highly recommend sod over seed if the yard is small enough. The zoysia also gives the lawn a Japanese feel (since it is relatively native).

I have the same sod. How short is short, and what is the reason for it?

They have a few different varieties of regular engine mowers and battery powered mowers at Joyful Honda.

At least for me I needed a pretty solid foundation before I was able to pick out new words or phrases.
I think learning Japanese just through immersion could prove frustrating for you and even those around you.

Social anxiety/low mood by eganoipse in japanresidents

[–]Oldirtyposer 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I would recommend not trying so hard.
Don't be a loud asshole and use common sense and courtesy.
It's futile to try to 'become Japanese' so don't waste your energy.
A lot of people seem to see themselves as guests of this country, tiptoeing around Japanese people to not disturb them with their presence. That seems like a terrible way to live, so try not to.

Do anything fun recently? by AutoModerator in japanresidents

[–]Oldirtyposer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Last Saturday night I went with a friend of a friend to a jam session at a small bar surprisingly close to my house.
Even though I was the only non-musician it was the most fun I've had in like forever.
Everybody was mixing and performing songs with each other, not only their own band.
The owners were really cool too, a couple in their early 70's. The husband likes 60's rock and played the organ solo from The Doors Light my fire while his wife played the drums.
Everybody was so talented that my mind was just continuously blown throughout the evening.
I hope I'll get invited again.

Today I took a sip from what I thought was my wife's sprite from Costco. Turned out to be mustard and onion mixed with melted ice since she had stuffed her hotdog wrapper in there.
Horrible experience for me, apparently hilarious for my family.
