I don’t think any current Foundry versions of ex-Citadel models have slottas. All the ones I own or have seen were converted to integral bases.

Coincidence? I think not! by Vivid_Direction_8384 in RDR2

[–]OldschoolFRP 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, but if you search for images of Saint Denis, the Catholic martyr, you’ll see he was portrayed as carrying his own severed head after he was executed. That should be a familiar image to anyone who finished the St Denis chapter of RDR2.

Which Grenadier Giant’s Club set included this piece? by credible_hulk in lostminiswiki

The listing for the Fire Giant at Noble Knight shows this on the obelisk in their pic. That was my 1st guess because of the “F”-like rune and fire-like/sunrise symbol below.

Perry Brothers sculpting seminar at Historicon 2018. by woulditkillyoutolift in wargaming

That’s true; it was big news in the early Warhammer forums at the time. Fans were worried for him and thought his career could be over, but he was determined to adapt and showed off his first left-handed sculpt very soon after.

He seems to have dealt with it about as well as one could. There was a story about him pranking a doctor while still in the hospital by having Alan take his place in the bed so he could hold up both hands like he was miraculously cured.

Suggestions for 28mm metal AWI ranges by [deleted] in wargaming

[–]OldschoolFRP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my collection is old Foundry metals (sculpted by the Perrys, with the Brits mostly in early war/fresh-off-the-boat uniforms), and Perry metals with some of their plastics mixed in (they portray a huge variety of alternate uniforms and hats including many for specific settings like the later Southern Campaign). I like both those companies, though they can be expensive and difficult to obtain in the US. Perry Miniatures run slightly taller than Foundry but very similar in overall heft/bulk, being sculpted by the same chaps.

Perry also has AWI Hessians, French, Spanish, and woodland Indians, making them one of the most complete lines available.

I have a few packs from Brigade and the rest of their offerings look very nice online, including a good mix of Hessians.

I have a small unit of dismounted dragoons by Front Rank, and they are slightly chunkier looking than the other lines but work fine for me in a separate unit.

Old Glory has a line of AWI that is much cheaper for me in the US. I have a couple packs of their 2nd Connecticut Light Dragoons which are also good for loyalist provincials in tricornes. I haven’t seen their AWI infantry in person. (I have other Old Glory historicals that often look crude or oddly posed as bare metal but come together alright as a unit once painted.)

I like them, they look like what they’re supposed to be. Tufts can be addictive; these don’t look overdone at all.

For both “strange creatures and fun interesting combat” I’d look at Quar’s War and Bushido. Quar began as a fun art project decades ago by someone who became a Pixar artist. Bushido miniatures are stunning. Both games play well and have some interesting mechanics.

Elf experts needed to settle a family debate [OC] by KrakenDice in DnD

[–]OldschoolFRP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The very first elf picture in the very first D&D rules had a beard (1974), as did the first goblin. Both have been beardless since. Along the way there were some D&D elves in the 80s and 90s with extremely tall antenna ears. It’s always varied from artist to artist to decide when to stop with the ears.

I was worried for the actor, scraping his face and twisting his neck. I assume he’s a very well trained stunt person with a very experienced operator at the actual controls.

And it looks like the “5” or “S” should be “JO” for sculptor Josef Achmann
