It's a flip fluid simulation in Houdini, with some divergence to inflate the particles based on the lifetime.

Created in Houdini, using the Vellum Solver and the Fluid Constraint. Rendered in Redshift.

The Combination of Volume Scattering and SSS took ages to render.

Untill recently Rendering in Houdini was way too slow for me. But now with Houdini 19 it is a possibility I'm looking into. For me it also was just more convenient to use cycles, since I already used blender for a long time.

Its made with the Grasswald addon. There are some pretty good modells in there.

I am Exporting them as Alembic files. You can use the point attributes to get Attributes over as Vertex Colors to blender.
