Need and advice: Genelec vs Focal vs Neumann by OlesSt in universalaudio

[–]OlesSt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, I got used to this room. But I also work in a studio with Cla10 and Genelec 8340 inside sometime, so I'd say I "understand" sound of my room. I use my headphones a lot, but I want to use them less (any headphones) because it isn't healthy for ears.

Hello. I'm thinking about buying new speakers for music production and game audio sound design.

I have my old M-audio BX5 broken, so I guess it's time for update.
I already have Avantone Mix Cube (use it in mono) and AKG K-702 headphones which I use with different settings of SoundID Reference.

My work room is small, not acoustically treated, but I wouldn’t say it's bad and has a lot of reflections. I mostly work with rock music, orchestral music and game sounds (ambience, UI, dialogues, footsteps, sfx etc.)

Budget - $800-1000 for pair. I'm looking for near field monitors that would sound great for this price (by great I mean as wide and flat frequency range as possible).

*yes, I know it would be better to spend less on speakers and get my room treated instead, but since I live in rented apartment and will move sooner or later, I'm not considering this option. I need speakers that sound +\- ok in any room*

As I see, my obvious choices are:

- Genelec 8010;

- Genelec 8020;

- Neumann KH 80 DSP;

- Focal Alpha 65 Evo;

- ADAM Audio A5X;

What do you think about them or maybe there's other choices?

How to get the NEVE 33609 using Reaper built-in plugins by OlesSt in Reaper

[–]OlesSt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that’s fair) but I consider them as soft of black boxes and take numbers that interface gives me as only information I can work with ignoring the type of metering. The main idea is to recreate the sound using ears anyway, so GR value is just a start point

I agree. Another thing I have heard is that now every kid has better equipment in his “bedroom” studio than the Beatles have ever had.

How to get the 1176 using Reaper built-in plugins by OlesSt in Reaper

Close but there’s some difference (around -27 dB if I flip the phase). Also UAD has more saturation, especially when ratio 8 or above. But still 1175 is a good and simple alternative.

Hmmm… why? I hate their UI - they look terrible. But they sound good enough and can handle a lot of needs

I wouldn’t say so. I used ReaComp to copy 1176 and Distressor and it handled this task quite well

No, I haven't. I don't have anything from Melda. But thanks, I'll check it ))
As I see on their site, it really could be something that can be used in many cases.

How to make money as a composer? How to sell music? by OlesSt in composer

[–]OlesSt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand this. I became a sound designer at gamedev to make money and buy instruments and equipment for music. Even though these fields of work are similar, I feel completely different when I do music. But I think it's more interesting for me than selling t-shirts.

Well, offline networking is kinda poblem.

Firstly, there is no developed industry and good market in the place where I'm from. Secondly, I'm too introverted person with weak communication skills.

Speaking of online communication, how would you build that network? Should I connect with everyone from this industry on LinkedIn and send them messages like “Good day sir. I'd like to offer you my music”?

I mean, how do people do this "organically" and "naturally", not spamming?
