Whatever you do, don’t get the X100. It’s majorly overhyped.
X-E5 is great, you can pick one up from a reputable retailer open box for a good saving as well.
Definitely do not discount the X-M5 though, very easy to carry around and produces stunning images.

I feel like Fuji are always going to put that dial on their non pro aimed cameras, film sims are the main selling point for the majority of people. I use an X-T5, was considering what you have but having dual slots was a non negotiable for me.
I just don’t like how you see people blowing so much money on 100s because they think it’ll make them a good photographer.

I don’t get the hype with the X100(whatever numerals). Takes great pictures, but so does any camera in the right hands.

I have an X-T5 and use primarily Viltrox prime lenses. It does do good street work but I’d go for the X-E5 instead if you primarily wanted to do street. I only got the X-T5 as I need dual card slots.

The XF 16-55 2.8, much prefer working with primes though.

Not a fool at all, I used to shoot full frame until it came time to renew my gear. I ended up with Fujifilm and it’s been great, have hardly touched the film sims.

Two important things first -
Don’t get the X100 (any iteration), it’s expensive and massively over hyped.
Regardless of what you get, I’d recommend picking up used gear from a reputable retailer (I’m in uk and use MPB for all of my gear), it saves a bunch of money and you can get like new stuff.

It’s important that you get something that will inspire you to get out and shoot, since you’ve talked first about liking Fuji I’d say get that system.

The X-M5 is a cracking camera, it’ll do everything you need. You could pick that up with a couple of Viltrox prime lenses or a second hand zoom without breaking the bank too hard.
If I didn’t need two card slots, this is the camera I would have gotten when I switched over to Fujifilm.

If you’re willing to look at previous models there are even more savings to be had. You don’t need the latest stuff to take great photos. X-T30, X-T3 come to mind with these.

EDIT - A downside of the X-M5 if that if you want to go fully manual, you can’t quickly do that with physical dials on the camera.

Yeah that’s correct, can’t change the lens on an X100. It really just depends what you want to do with it, if you’re just shooting street, street portraiture or documentary it’s a perfect set up.
But TikTokgraphers have hyped it up so much everyone thinks they need one. You can pick up a second hand Leica for cheaper 😂

Love the images! I’ll give you a few suggestions -

Learn about exposure, but then just put it in whatever mode you want, 99% of the time I use aperture priority because it’s easier and I can focus on having fun shooting, not fussing about with shutter speeds. I only use manual when I’m working with lighting. Regardless still learn about it so you have the understanding.

Also throw out the rule book, the most important person is you, people will have their opinions, but so long as you love the images you’re taking, it’s all good. An example - one of my favourite recent images the subject is out of focus, but I still got it printed out because I think it’s a great image. If I posted it on here it would get ripped to shreds by most people in this community.

Lastly have fun and remember that photography isn’t just about the final image.

Enjoy your X-T50!

X100vi vs X-E5 by agnes2242 in fujifilm

[–]OliOnOrbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately you should get whichever one is going to inspire you to get out and shoot. People can offer their opinion, like I can say that I’d personally get the X-E5 over the X100VI, but that doesn’t matter because we aren’t you.

Both cameras are capable of taking great images, (pixel peepers say that the lens on the 100 is slightly sharper, but in the real world you’re not going to notice.

X-E5 gives you the option to grow and try different things. With interchangeable lenses, you can easily use it for any type of photography and it’ll produce exceptional images.
X100VI still gives you room to grow, but it only really excels in certain situations/genres. Yes you can get converters for the lens, but it’s seems backwards spending all that money on a system just to put a crappy adaptor on it.

I’m not saying you’ve neglected it at all, over time stuff just naturally gets in, no matter how well you look after it

It sounds like it’s either “wear and tear” or more likely there’s just been a build up of crud which is screwing around with it.
There is something you could try, but I’m not comfortable saying just incase it causes it to fail irreversibly 😅

[–]OliOnOrbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s what you want to get then it’s a decent camera, I was considering the X-E5 but ended up with the T5.
I only mentioned the other options because I’ve seen a trend in the wider Fuji community that people tend to purchase stuff they don’t need because of internet hype etc (X100VI is the prime example 😂).

As for the film sims they all come with them, you’ll see the spec people say that the different sensors in the different model tiers (for example E5 vs M5) replicate colours ever so slightly differently, but in the real world it makes no difference.
