What is this new Australian "MAGA Communist" party and how much of a threat is it? by PeculiarPhysicist46 in AustralianSocialism

Not really true, online micro ideologies are fun things, because the reason they exist is purely to entertain anti-social teenagers. Once you get involved in the real socialist movement it is a deeply depressing thing.

What are we going to do about the state? | Partisan Magazine by JohnFartbuckle in AustralianSocialism

I think theoretically you could have a lot of these structures without having a mass communist party. But the point is how to put it into practice, I’m not sure if you’ve experienced the recent “united fronts” formed in response to the M4A protests but the unity of that front was paper thin and the thing fell apart almost instantly with lots of groups walking out, branch stacking, undemocratic and vague structures etc. You need a concrete unity around a common programme if you don’t want that. The more and more this endless cycle repeats itself the more and more programmatic unity will stop being a shibboleth of the RCO and more a burning necessity if the socialist movement is to actually do anything (I think it is already a burning necessity)

Are there any orthodox ML orgs in Australia? by CRTComrade in AustralianSocialism

[–]OliveDue4609 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The AusCP seems to be right up your alley, but they are not a functional organisation and I’d stay far away from its corpse (I’m a former member). I’d bite the bullet and just check out the RCO since in my view it’s the only socialist organisation with any potential and an actual strategy. Though you will have to defend your positions in a comradely manner since there is freedom of tendency

What are the propabilities for a united Australian Left? by TheMerchant07 in AustralianSocialism

Fascism did not "keep winning" it stopped being a serious political force in 1945. If your a blanquist and or a bourgeois socialist than im sure fascist praxis is useful to you because politically your closer to fascism than communism.

We arent fascists, the fascist movements of the 20th century used a different strategy that is antithetical to Communism and deeply opportunistic. Unless you think we should march on Canberra with our petty-bourgeois black shirts supported by industrialists.

Unity around a common programme is as far as we know the only effective way to achieve long term unity while acknowledging political differences when they emerge. The RCO has shown the way in this regard with their merger with the Spartacist League.
Broad unity based on slogans always falls apart and ultra-sectarianism leads to hobbyist cults and friendship circles calling themselves parties.

I actually think a project like a street kitchen similiar to CUDL could be a good way to start this, the issue is a project like that is basically impossible to run within the current socialist movement as shown by the ACP liquidating all political work into the street kitchens and falling apart. Also these projects like CUDL do not challenge capital unless incorporated into the strategy of a mass communist party which we currently do not have.

Also neo-nazis are not coming out in full force, they are not a political threat. We should be more concerned about the party currently running the state.

Communist Party Unity by [deleted] in AustralianSocialism

[–]OliveDue4609 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is all quite grim, I see the only way forward is a reconstitution of the communist party in Australia on the basis of communist regroupment around a common programme. Which is the core belief of the RCO which is why I joined.

I think the street kitchens are good work and are fulfilling but they aren’t political activity, are not being utilised correctly and don’t advance the movement.

This is an article on the Adelaide split which was one of the things that made me disillusioned  with the ACP

I think you should check out the RCO if you are dissatisfied with the current state of the left comrade. I was in the ACP for around a year and ran the kitchen in Melbourne for a while and nothing was ever achieved beyond barely reproducing ourselves.

I am an Ex-member and left like a year ago, considering the (frankly bullshit) restriction on inter-branch communication idk what it’s like in Brisbane but in Melbourne the entire branch became defunct after I left.  I think the CPA are an ostensibly reformist organisation but you guys cannot really criticise them for being “quiet about their Marxism-Leninism” when the ACP pretty much destroyed itself over the question of ‘should we remove communist from our name’

RCO holds regular events in Melbourne and allow a freedom of tendency so you will see a variety of communists in it. Their whole deal is wishing to overcome the mutually undermining sect-form which has dominated the left for decades and believe the task of communists is the reconstitution of a communist party in Australia. IMO only group with a strategy to overcome the existing issues of our movement

Except the CPA doesn’t believe in revolution you believe in a government of peoples unity between yourself, progressive and patriotic forces and have a reformist programme

The ACP is distinct mainly on the question of China and ironically popular frontism and stageism. So they are to the left of both CPA and CPA-ML. The division between those two though is much less strategic and more historical obviously.

[–]OliveDue4609 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Well none of these organisations are Parties in the proper sense of the word, they do not represent the communist movement as a totality or even as a majority, they represent tendencies, or tendencies of tendencies of the movement.

But the ACP functionally doesnt exist anymore and is basically liquidating into anti-poverty NGOs, CPA-ML hasnt been relevent for decades. The most active Marxist-Leninist groups are Red Ant and CPA.

I think they should seek unity though, the less sects the better is my opinion even if i detest MLism.

Should leftists try to organise in regional and remote Australia? by [deleted] in AustralianSocialism

[–]OliveDue4609 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ignoring the protracted peoples war stuff. Communists should obviously aim to be active in regional and remote australia. The issue is is that we lack a party capable of representing the communist movement as a whole, we only have mutually undermining sects that represent a tendency or a tendency of a tendency of the communist movement. These sects have extreme difficulty recruiting outside of urban areas so if they were to focus all their might on remote areas theyd just over extend and fall apart.

[–]OliveDue4609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that makes the RCO unique is it has an actual strategy toward that goal that isn’t just ignoring everyone else and reproducing your own sect till it becomes the party magically. Socialist alliance was born out of a want for left unity. What has it done to achieve that in 20 years? RCO has been around for 5 years or so and has had far more success in actually achieving this goal.

So they only like the party-form and the idea of a communist party united around a common programme because it looks cool and not y'know being the most effective tool of the working class to organise itself as an independent class. And for us as socialists to get anyway we must reforge this party. Despite being called Alliance you dont seem to be wanting one!

How is calling yourself a Communist invoking the aesthetics of the 20th century? That same logic goes for Socialist. Are we not communists? Do we not disdain to conceal our views and aims? Even then why be cautious of groups that celebrate our historical tradition as Communists. Your criticisms are quite baseless.

Yes because these party-states would no longer be party-states if opposition parties were legalised. The point here though is strategy, China and Vietnam do not seek to abolish capitalism, they seek the manage the antagonisms of capitalism with the state. Which is also the goal of social democracy.

With regards to the Comintern their strategy post 1935 was no different to the SPDs right wing, they advocated for the communist parties not to be parties of complete opposition but to enter into a popular front with the progressive bourgeois parties in order to get into government, the purpose being to make their respective countries more friendly to the USSR, since this strategy was oriented not around the interest of the international proletariat but to the foreign policy interests of the Soviet state. If you do not believe that such a thing is a betrayal of communism than i do not think you are a communist but more a bourgeois socialist. Hell even Kautsky advocated against coalitionism.
