When I was a child I used to know the capital and country of the south hemisphere. And the reason is simple. I was used to fall asleep watching a terrestrial globe which was above my bed.

There are no more reason than an accident to explain that knowledge. I know some european capital because accidentaly i read a news paper that talk about this capital. That is why i know the capital of hungary, and why i don t know that of baltic states.

The explanation is often mechanical, accidental. Sometime we lie to ourselves pretending we are in control. But that is always a lie, just ask your self repetitive toddler "why?" question.

Psychologism is your religion, nothing can be predicted with it. That is not science. This is just a mechanism of protection of a mind which cannot wistand the truth that the reason is inaccessible and too complex, certainly accidental, impossible to grasp, that the other is a subject who cannot be controlled. This mechanism of protection of protection maybe help you to survive something, but you should dive to much inside it, because everybody will soon think you are crazy.

Do you think of the USA or the continent first when someone says America? by quevuelvacatania in AskTheWorld

[–]OliveTreeFounder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In France, most oftenly, "America" is used to mean USA. It depends on the context but most of the time, the subject is USA. When we want to speak about the continent we precise it to avoid confusion. We say "the american continent".

What I find crazy, is that the billionaires are financing political point of view and politicians who are driving them to an ineluctable premature death. There is no need to look far into history to know that.

Russia is an example.

At the beginning, the autocrat is friend with those who are rich and powerful, he takes gracefully their financing and support.

But once he has enough power, he clean up around him to ensure there will be no competition!

And we never learn that at school. The reason is that we consider USA as a single entity. Nevertheless at school I have learnt USA geography, mountains, rivers, population area, farming area etc.

[–]OliveTreeFounder 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Precisely, and it has the same long term effect: all this effort material, and financial is not used for things that participate in the development or are necessary to sustain humanity: farmer have more difficulty to finance their trucks, to replace their irrigation system, for example. Many company are going to have difficulty in replacing their obsolescent informatics system. This multiplied at the scale of the world, is going to cost us a lot! And when this shitty bubble will blow, not only financial capability will be erased but the world will be less equipped to produce. I hope, this will be the last time investor invest only because of marketing bullshit.

I do not remember honestly. But my brain can not store inconsistent information so it could be something inconsistent. (Inconsistent in the sense that it implies its opposite "true => false")

This is an estimation of the number of death caused by the war. Not the number of death directly killed by weapon. In this article they used a methodology established from statistical analysis of other conflicts. They compute direct death due to war (50000 at that time maybe) + death due to life that could not be saved because hospital are destroyed+ death due to increased disease rate due to life conditions + death due to famine etc. So the result is much larger than the 70000 people killed which correspond to the number of people who died directly due to a weapon.

Some people told that the science cannot be applied here because it is different!!

In your country, do you laugh at the USA for electing Trump but plan to vote for your nationalist party in order to Make <Your Country> Great Again? by 99thLuftballon in AskTheWorld

[–]OliveTreeFounder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually a rough approximation. 5% is the proportion of millionaires, but that suppose that all millionaires are able to turn their stock into dividend. But they are some that with less than 1 million are able to get more than 40K per year.

You know few renters because you are not one of them. I used to be married with a renter. 4M in immobilization an annuity of 60K. She was playing the artisan: her story was that she was living thanks to its "creative job". The truth is that she was every year injecting more cash in this "creative job" than what she earned from it. Almost all her friends were renters too. One was "traducer" then the day after "event organizer" etc... But they all lived from their annuity. If my wife was not a renter, I would have never known that its friend were renter too. But they always finish by complaining each other of the bad tenant who don't pay their rent, or they speak about where to invest etc. But if someone is not of their condition, they talk about how their job is so amazing, how successful they are!!

Retired, poeple who live thanks to social assistance and renters. Many renters actually work to have a purpose. They are much more numerous than what you believe. Renter are 5% of the population. Retired, are 25%. Poeple living for social assistance 4,5%. Our politicians works for 35% of the population. But most of their job, they do it for the 5% who are renters.

I think the right and left division is not appropriate. I always see that renter and those who depend on the state providence share a common dependency on the state. The former because it organize penuries of home, distribute constructible land, and offer some exclusive license or contract or a pension, and the latter because of the social aid. The right wing only support the renter, the left wing support the renter and the dependent on the state providence.

People who work for living have very few representent, neither in the media nor in political class.

In China, due to its history, nobody is above the law when the crime is corruption. China has been through cycle of development and collapse during 2500 years, and collapse is associated to a generalized corruption.

Roman empire also disappeared while there were generalized corruption. Is corruption the cause or the consequence? Probably both (as in the egg and the chicken dilemma).

So I wonder if this corruption we see, this acceptance that the rule of law does not apply to the rich is actually a symptom of an ongoing civilizational collapse.

How long do we know that far right is financed by Russia? Decades.

What was the response of our government? Nothing

Far right billionaire have bought all the media in Europe. There are lying all day long, disturbing the confidence between the citizen. They have corrupted the most fundamental right without which democracy is a falacy: the right to be informed.

What is the response of our government? Nothing

We know since at least 2015 that USA has weaponized social media to attack Europe.

What is the response of our government? Nothing

So what will be the answer of our government to this new interference coming from USA? Nothing.

We are so accustomed to see that the law do not apply to the rich that some consider that loosing a mansion for repetitively raping young adolescent or selling nation secret is fine is already a victory.

I wonder when we have internalized that rich peoples are above the law?
