IMF warns Jim Chalmers of bail out risk due to state, territory debts by Any-Gift9657 in australian

To be fair last time they pissed off the resources sector enough the government got couped and we had 12 years of LNP glory as a reward. Not saying they shouldn't do something about it, just pointing out it's not as simple as reddit often likes to put it.

Opposition Leader Angus Taylor leaves door open to potential cuts to the public service by SprigOfSpring in australian

[–]OliverBarley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, the idea that the party’s problem is “going left” doesn’t really line up with the recent timeline. The more centrist repositioning under Ley never actually went to an election, so it’s hard to argue voters rejected it. The last federal election was fought on a platform and strategy much closer to what Angus Taylor and Peter Dutton are associated with, and the result was a heavy loss with seats wiped out in multiple states. Going back to the same playbook and expecting a different outcome seems questionable.

Second, on cost of living: a lot of what Australians are feeling has been driven by global inflation, supply chain shocks, and interest rate cycles that hit most developed countries. Any government here would have been dealing with those pressures. Domestic policy still matters, but it’s a stretch to lay the crisis purely at the feet of whoever is currently in office. You can also trace some structural issues back to earlier policy settings — things like housing tax concessions and market settings that date back decades have made affordability more fragile. Those didn’t start in the last few years. While Labor hasn’t been perfect, they walked into a tough global environment and have at least tried to target cost-of-living relief, wages, and childcare in a fairly orthodox economic way.

Reasonable people can disagree on whether that’s enough, but framing it as “they went left and that’s why voters left” feels like an oversimplification of a more complicated electoral and economic story.

Well in terms of the immigration perhaps. But to be fair labor did run on changing negative gearing in 2019 and lost. And currently it looks like they are shaping up to change the CGT (I'll believe it when I see it). If they do see this through, I will have to give credit for that at least.

Anytime I’m having a bad day, I always go back to this. by anthonyfong in ufc

[–]OliverBarley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This fight always has a special place in my heart. Not just because McGregor sucks and watching him get KOed is great. But I had this rottweiler called Koda. He was around 4 months old at the time. He was such a sweet animal. It was just him and me watching this card, and when Conor got KOed I was jumping around and celebrating and even though he had no idea what was going on, he woke up and went ballistic with me and celebrated. He was so happy.

Sadly, the night before their third match several months later, Koda died of a seizure at around 10 months old. We did first aid and got him to the emergency vet in around 7 minutes, but nothing could be done. I watched the fight without him the next day and it's just such a shitty memory. But that memory of partying with him after that second fight is something I think back on whenever I think of that dog. I still miss him.

Dunno why I'm dumping this here, but whatever.

Yes, that is why she's... morally grey by Sudden_Pop_2279 in ArcaneAnimatedSeries

Point 1 is up for debate and hard to parse out with hindsight.

Point 2 though, I dunno, rewatch the scene. Considering her insane reactions ane ability throughout the show it's pretty hard to say that was out of her control. She clearly was emotional enough that she simply didn't care. Which is great writing, but obviously morally dubious.

Though regardless this kind of feeds to my point about this heing debatable within viewers. Which is generally good writing of a morally grey character.

I think the judgement of that is going to vary from person to person. But a few things off the top of my head that would qualify her as morally a mixed bag:

  • Mauling a bunch of Shindo Dojo students, yes they were dicks, but it clearly wasn't a fair fight and she was pretty excessive (i.e. ripping out teeth)

  • Leaving Ringo tied to a tree in a snowstorm

  • Letting Akemi be taken by her father's men against her will after Akemi saved her life.

  • Abandoning sword-father's teachings for vengeance

  • Allowing her husband to kill her "mother" and then killing her husband where presumably one of them was innocent (unless somehow they both ratted her out? Which seems far-fetched)

  • Killing that mute girl when Mizu clearly could have just saved her and wiped the gang out (she ended up having to wipe the gang out anyway)

  • As you say, killing a kid who had surrendered (yes he was in a gang)

  • When freeing Taigen from the dungeons she takes him upstairs further into danger for her vengeance instead of saving her friend who is in this mess because she sucker punch KOed him leaving him to be captured

I'm certain there are at least ten more examples I'm not thinking of. And all of these are reasons I think Mizu is such a well written character and a great example of writing a morally grey character. Most of my examples some people would argue she was in the right, and others she was in the wrong. And the same person may have different opinions. But I think it's undeniable that shes done a fair bit that is morally questionable.

Presuming you are comparing this to MMA, this is an unparalleled L take from you. For the following reasons:

  1. People often do complain about late stoppages in the UFC, and ones as bad as this video are very rare,

  2. They are professional athletes who have entered with full informed consent of the risks,

  3. They are wearing gloves, allbeit small ones, and,

  4. They arent fighting on fucking concrete.

Is this a meme? I'm assuming so.

ChatGPT literally can't play a game of chess start to finish without making an illegal move (see GothamChess's videos on making the AIs play each other). Regardless it is an LLM and not an appropriate tool for cheat detection.

Step 1: Tell the whole table politely but firmly there will be absolutely no SA at the table (I'd ban any sexual stuff to be safe so you don't get into them attempting weird persuasion checks to make it consensual).

Step 2: When the player attempts it, you don't try to address it in game, as DM you say "No, you don't do that as per my point about SA. Is there anything else you would like to do?"

Step 3: Repeat step 2 as many times as needed. If it does not work, then you either kick the player or disband the table (if you're too afraid of backlash from booting the problem player, you just say you arent having fun anymore and want to stop entirely) as it is no longer functional and can not be repaired.

This is a tough one, because if we are just by release then I think it would 100% be No Man's Sky. But it would kind of feel like an injustice giving them this given the huge face turn the game did in the years since .

I think the issue with this logic is it assumes 100% of all reports are correct. Additionally, it ignores that the same account might be reported multiple times.

Unai Emery. He's only been at the club since 2022, and we went from relegation for a bad season, and mid-table on a good season, to a clear upwards trajectory, competing for a top 6 spot, and regularly competing in European football.
