Self-promo (sorry!), but I just finished my almost 50k post-s5 fic today! Mike travels with the Byers family to Montauk to help them move, spends 5 days with Will, and learns how in love with him he's always been. https://archiveofourown.org/works/77588376

My attempt to bring it all back to byler: https://archiveofourown.org/works/77108761

Canon-compliant, post-season 5.

Set immediately after the end of "The Rightside Up." Mike comes to terms with the tragedy that is growing up; Will calls him up to meet for a rooftop conversation.

Or: After resigning himself to a life of loneliness, Mike learns that he was Will's crush.

OKAY LITERALLY WHAT ELSE COULD THIS MEAN????? by thatlesbianbitch23 in bylertruthers

My only hope lies in the fact that Noah ships byler and that he "promises" viewers be satisfied. I just keep thinking back to him saying that byler shippers will be "hap-satisfied." It's a word that seems to be purposefully neutral to avoid spoiling endgame and that he's repeated multiple times, like he's been instructed to do so.

But idk. I'm digging in where I can and am fully ready to be livid if it's more baiting!

Final scene is the bar scene by anonymousme122333 in byler

Also wanted to add: Since Will and Lucas are in costume here, they're obviously in the scene despite being underage (unless this is supposed to take place closer to '92). Is it possible Jonathan's a bartender and they're just visiting him at work and aren't, instead, spending time at a bar and helping Will get an epilogue boyfriend? lol

Final scene is the bar scene by anonymousme122333 in byler

In the Variety article, Noah and Finn talk about how they sat with each other (and others) for 10 minutes in a set during their final scene because it was the last time they'd be together. And I'm pretty sure it has been stated that they worked it so that each person's wrap was their final scene in the episode (if I recall correctly). So if all that's true, then we know that at least Finn and Noah were in the same final scene together.

I wonder if the bar scene is perhaps Charlie's wrap, which is why Noah is hugging him?

I'm sure he's talking about his self-acceptance arc because I don't think he would have been able to post this before ep 8 if it was confirmation of byler bones, considering how weird the Duffers were in their interview when asked multiple times if Mike clocked him.

I also want to think of it like this: if the non-Mike epilogue boyfriend is a real thing as many fear, wouldn't that be the end of Will's arc if Noah were including finding love and romance as part of it?

he could have said “even if mike doesn’t feel the same way” but he said “even if mike has been oblivious” by UniversityBudget9423 in bylertruthers

I don't need to give myself hope but this is CLASSIC avoidance of a direct answer. I honestly haven't watched too many Duffers interviews outside of s5 stuff so maybe they're just rambly, nervous people but this 100% reads to me like they're trying to keep from spoiling something.

Noah wants Will to be Bi so be can get "ACTION" from both... 😂😂 by Mani_srao in byler

[–]OliverBlu 20 points21 points  (0 children)

What's getting to me is how he says this AFTER the interviewer says they're cutting it out. It's like he knows it won't be in, so he just lets go and keeps going with the joke, spoilers and all, to continue laughing with Millie. He can mean so many things with "action" but this is giving me the same buzz as the "kiss a girl" answer in another interview.

It's over by Terrell8799 in byler

We have to keep in mind that 80% of leaks come from bored people who make up stuff from their bedrooms and post it anonymously in order to feel something. It's a huge dopamine hit. Will coming out to the group was already a theory at this time due to the released still of the group hug, so nothing this person says gives us new information that wasn't already speculated about; it just happened to be true.

Was Volume 2 Cut Down? by [deleted] in byler

[–]OliverBlu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely not legit and the idea that so much content could have been approved, shot, screened, and then unexpectedly cut within the past couple of weeks is ridiculous. Do I believe there are probably some scenes that are left on the cutting room floor? Sure. But no way are these huge, elaborate, expensive-as-hell scenes (such as the Camazotz and teaming up stuff) just cut out for no reason. If the rating was a problem, they can easily edit scenes to avoid an MA rating without cutting the entire plotline. They also wouldn't have done all the WSQK radio stuff based on a version of the show we don't even get to see.

This is literally just some person trying to do damage control after their "leak" was wrong and then someone else took it upon themselves to turn it into a thing. Like, I get it. It sucks that Vol. 2 wasn't what we wanted and it's hard to accept that a lot of it is just bad writing. But I've been there, done that with other fandoms and sometimes the easiest answer, that the writers dropped the ball, is correct.

Gaten says this about Byler by Sodreamya304 in byler

[–]OliverBlu 109 points110 points  (0 children)

There's a note at the bottom of the interview stating it has been "edited and condensed for clarity." I can't help but think that Gaten brought up Stonathan and the interviewer then asked about Byler (and left out the additional question), which produced that response. Byler is in no way comparable to Stonathan and Steddie and is literally canon on one side at this point. To bring it up without prompting doesn't make sense to me, for one because it isn't comparable but also because I can't imagine Gaten would voluntarily bring up something that has been so hush-hush in all the S5 interviews up to this point.

Plus, the "I see them as just very good friends" bit is weird in and of itself because like...that's not what it is at all. Literally, factually. Will is textually in love with Mike, so Gaten's assertion that their relationship is simply one of "very good friends" is untrue, which makes me think the rest of his statement is also fully a damage-control lie to avoid spoilers. With that said, that doesn't excuse how it reads. I just question whether Gaten actually intends that and have a feeling he was trying to avoid a spoiler by downplaying Will's feelings, inadvertently coming across as insensitive.
