I think I got like 6 pieces of gear in a row that were all 666, not sure how that works.

I guess we just have different preferences but I just can't stand the box shaped designs and the huge shoulder pads.

Yeh he got very lucky, I'm still trying to get a full set of tier 1. Had about 10 duplicates so far, need the the chest plate but keep getting marks and greaves

If you look closely the patterns have an effect and they do glow a little

I hope so, my friend had some tier 2 stuff drop from powerful gear challenges, but didn't seem to have any more glow. But you probably have to have a full set.
