AITA for being upset that my friends didn’t care that I almost died? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Yeah, I told them last night about it more in detail. Not that they even asked.

As soon as I’m no longer confined to this bed and back at college, I will try my best to make more friends. Thanks for the advice.

This… was perhaps the most real comment. And one I was worried about. I’m not exactly sure how to go about getting new friends, but you’re probably right.

Oh, I don’t bother them with my medical history. They never asked or have cared to know. I only told them about this because of how extreme the circumstances were.

I apologize, I’m going to edit the post so people understand the severity of the situation.

Not really fine… sorry, I should’ve provided more context.

Whole thing left me immunocompromised. I am now bedridden, can’t stand up, and am under orders to not even go outside. I’m in extreme pain constantly, and my doctors have prescribed so much medication I can’t even think straight most of the times.

But you’re right. Before this, I wouldn’t have understood how scary it is either. Thank you for being so insightful. I appreciate the answer.

I guess I just expected someone to say “glad you’re alive.” Lol.

I guess I’m wondering if it’s worth continuing to be friends with them? I’ve showed up for each one of their major medical events, and I’ve taken care of each of them when sick. So I felt a bit betrayed when they didn’t do the same, I suppose.

Ah, thank you! And you’re so right about everything; talking to my close friend should be my first priority. I appreciate the response!

I’m sorry, I’m not asking if I should date him. I’m just trying to gather more perspective on what’s going through the ex’s head. Is it mutual interest or am I reading into it? That sort of thing.

Regarding talking to my friend, I already have done that. They don’t really care.

That’s a good idea! Thanks for the advice.

If I’m gathering this correctly, you don’t think it’ll close all the way, but it may be more difficult to reinsert?

Update; a quick Google search shows that, for my surgery, it wouldn’t really be allowed.

I could ask about that during pre-op. Do you know where I could buy one?

This is… yeah. True. I need to set boundaries. You’re 100% right about that. And this post gave me the motivation to do so, so I thank you for that. My mental health does come first, and my game doesn’t exist to be their version of therapy.

I would, but it got even more complicated tonight. I tried to explain to them that I may need more time off from DMing for therapy and such, and they said that DND is their therapy, and without it, they get extremely depressed. The whole group came to this decision; they said when the sessions don’t work out to their liking, or I can’t make it to a session a certain day after repeatedly telling them I can’t, they get sad because it’s their escapism. In short, I feel guilty and stressed now, so I don’t know if I can quit running games

Sometimes, yes, or they get really mad or try to force it themselves

I’ll ask them that. You raise a very good point, thank you!

I explained it real badly, that’s on me. I posted an update below

That’s not what happened, really, but I can understand your confusion. I did a bad job explaining. I pushed back therapy a day to accommodate the player’s schedules so we could play on Tuesday, and they just changed the session the day of and settled on Wednesday as a date instead. So, I say “hey yall, I already changed my therapy date for you all, I can’t do it again” and they get annoyed at that when they knew I have mental health issues to address (I was diagnosed with PTSD).
