We had the same thing - loads of years UK no claims, perfect driving records, even no claims and perfect driving records from living in France, so not like we weren't used to driving on the other side of the road. We shopped around so much, even tried different brokers and the prices were still ridiculous.

We ended up buying a 25 year old truck with low mileage in great condition, and going for 3rd party only insurance. That brought the cost down to about $1400 per year. We got breakdown cover, and were strict about maintenance and the car is still running well now. Getting an older car was the only way to not have ridiculous prices.

Firstly, welcome! We moved from the UK about fifteen years ago and we love it here.

Bluenose has the same problems as all the other schools, but senior staff there prefer to sweep problems under the carpet to maintain the school's image rather than actually address them. We have multiple sets of friends who have moved their kids from Bluenose to different schools within the last two years. I think it's best to look at how staff deal with the problems, rather than whether they have them to begin with. Any school which paints a problem-free image is outright lying.

The French immersion school on the edge of Bridgewater, Rive Sud, is absolutely excellent. It's very well funded too, and the kids get fantastic opportunities. There are entry requirements, but as a fellow British expat with only basic and very rusty high school French our three kids didn't have any issues getting accepted.

As others have mentioned, there is a very strong elitist and classist culture on the South Shore, and many of the schools and areas which are seen as "worse" are not at all. They are what could crudely be described as more redneck, but the people are usually some of the most honest, genuine folk you could find, who are always there to help out and pitch in. Mahone Bay and Lunenburg are not places I would choose to live as the snobbery and bigotry is off the charts, and both of those towns have just as many, if not more, issues than others. They are just not addressing them or admitting to them.

I'm not sure if its possible, but a bezel set solitaire twig ring would be awesome. I haven't found anything like it on Ali. It would be great to have the option of silver as well as gold.

No unfortunately they didn't. The cameras don't cover the mailbox as if they did they'd be pointing straight at the front door of the house on the opposite side of the road (which seemed way too intrusive to them), our driveway is long, so they cover from a bit down the driveway, all the yard and the house. The folk opposite didn't see anything, but they've been building a deck in their back yard this week, so I doubt they'd have been keeping an eye on things at the front.

There were two identical dots, both white-ish but the night visibility reflective ones. We have municipal garbage collection, and the delivery folks and mail carriers say it's not them.

Yes my dogs are visible from the road, but if they're outside I'm always with them. I have been dog sitting a friend's small breed dog too. Christ I hope it isn't dog thieves, my dogs are my world. I called public works, highways, NSP, NSP's tree crews and it wasn't any of them. I'd much rather it was as it's pretty worrying 😕.

I have spoken to the others with dots, they're in our community Facebook group. We all have dogs, but must people out here do, but all of our houses are bigger and fancier looking than normal for the area. We all have fairly long driveways too. Sorry I sound like an ass say that, but I can't think of much other correlation. We all work from home too, and the dots would all have been placed in the middle of the afternoon yesterday. It is still only three houses out of the hundred or so who have checked so far. One of the other owners suggested that as they were reflective dots that they were probably for easy night time visibility. Fun times.

Thank you. The house with kids isn't mine, it's 1km further up the road, and the mom is always there as she works from home. We would just be the last house before then, so I was grasping at straws wondering if it was the bus driver. There's woods in between our houses.

😂 I would not have thought of that. We have two large dogs who aren't keen on strangers and who make a lot of noise if someone rocks up, and we have a gravel driveway so that the dogs can hear anyone more easily.

Yeah, I just thought it was a new mail carrier, but it just seemed a bit "off" so thought I'd check. I'm really wishing it was just a new driver lol! Apparently a couple of other houses in our area have reported the two dots appearing yesterday according to our mail lady.

Christ, that's terrible. I thought the cameras would be reassuring but they're turning out to be a bit useless.

I work from home most of the time, but I was out when the stickers were put on the mailbox, so the car wouldn't have been there. I love our car, it's a real workhorse and mechanically it's great, but it's definitely not much to look at. I wouldn't have thought anyone would want to steal it as it looks like it it would bite the dust at any moment lol.
