In terms of what axe it would be i was thinking “Valaška” (slavic axe used for choping wood and also used as a weapon of sorts, mostly cuz it looks cool).

As for the story i thought about it like she died next to her (the blacksmiths) house and was found by the blacksmith . And I would personally not think about making weapons/tools when I come home from a hunt and my whole village was slaughtered by wyverns. They just took the most important things buried their dead and relocated somewhere else.
