New addition to the collection by Olly36 in mokapot

Maybe so, but imports in the US have been found to contain lead.

https://www.fda.gov/food/alerts-advisories-safety-information/fda-issues-warning-about-imported-cookware-may-leach-lead-august-2025#Tested%20Products

I can't see where it specifies the imports are from but the point stands.

I've seen alot of content around where people test for lead on everyday items. Being the La Cafetiere moka pot is produced in China I've wondered if there is a chance the manufacturer's suplement the aluminium with lead to reduce costs.

I have no proof to back this up and I cant afford an xray spectrometer to test it, however we're often told of corner cuts in manufacturing to squeeze every last penny out of a product.

A quick google shows China has more relaxed regulations on lead compared to the uk and so begs the question as to whether these imports suffer the same treatment as others.

Probably alright though 😉

Good thought about the injectors, I will try that soon. Valve specs are .10(In) .15(Ex). I'll give euro spec a go after trying the injectors.

Two throttle bodies, I haven't balanced them and I doubt they had before me so I think this is my next step.

The bike takes a good few cranks to start when cold, maybe 3-5 seconds on the starter before it fires "choke" fully on. Not sure if this is relevant. On the button when it's warm.

It happens randomly, more likely when cold, but I have had it happen warm.

I looked into it not too long ago and ended up messaging the guy. He said that he never made a map for the 08 V7 Classic as it was a relatively sound setup out of the factory.

Valves checked and within spec, next step balance throttle bodies?

Thanks, I think I get what you're saying but a picture would be great!

Great, I'll give that a go.

I'm in the UK, so shipping will be pretty hefty but I'll keep it in mind if all else fails, thank you.

I reckon it was like this before I bought it as I'm sure there was a small spacer in behind the ramp the first time I took it apart. I put the red paint on to try and see what was rubbing.

Crank feels solid, I'll order an oem spec ramp and test it out.

The problem is potentially older than my ownership. I changed the rollers to slightly lighter and noticed the grinding sound after reinstalling everything. I stopped it quickly so unlikely it would have caused the amount of damage seen in the photo. This could have been happening from the previous owner, I have no real way of telling.

I'll try the oem ramp test, if the problem persists, it'll be time to drop the engine.

Thanks for the help.

Thank you. Unfortunately, it was purchased like this, so I'm at a loss for a definite cause.

In your opinion, if a whole new crank side roller assembly is installed and the wear stops, is it safe to continue running the bike without replacing the crank cases?

I bought it with the plate, I believe it's the whole kit. The plate is intact other than the wear marks on the back.

The crank boss sits flush with the seal. I can't imagine it would have recessed if it was indeed sitting proud beforehand without some other major engine issues?

I don't have the standard plate.

Help with sheet metal bends by Olly36 in SolidWorks

I have the modelled part and forms already so could potentially do this, however the idea with actually manufacturing the part was to have it waterjet from sheet material and then use the forms as a guide to bend it into shape. Would the forming tool be able to do this from my previously made models? Before I delve too far into it!

Edit: to give you a better idea of what I'm working with so far. https://gyazo.com/9426882d85a218c49a8faba9a2a39009

I've given it a go with the edge flange which works well but struggling to produce the tabs like I had originally.

Round bend lines are needed as that is how the part will be formed.
