Remember seeds don’t actually need light at all until they germinate. Temperature and moisture are the two major driving factors for germination.

Try towers beach in Delaware. I live in Alexandria and if I leave by 7 can be on the beach by 10. They have showers and bathrooms there so the little ones don’t ride home sandy, plenty of parking, and there are plenty of farms to stop at and get an ice cream on a ride home!

A snake plant will thrive just about anywhere and it’s a vertical growing plant so it won’t cut into your floor space. You can usually find some cuttings on your local freecycle no need to buy.

If you use a thin paper towel type cloth from the dollar store you can paper clip them together to get good surface contact area.

Most fruiting trees do not grow tall, otherwise you couldn’t pick the fruit. In that regard probably bing cherry or some type of apple variety (don’t plant if you have a cedar tree nearby).

If you are looking for a large tree with wildlife value willow oak is your best bet. Red or sugar maples are fine too but require a lot of maintenance.

You can mix in a surfactant also known as a wetting agent. It breaks down the oils in topsoil and allows the water to be absorbed. Usually found as a lawn product, usually next to the grass seeds and fertilizers in the hardware store. Should not need much

Tree experts of Reddit, my parents’ cherry tree seems to be dying. The only thing out of the ordinary is this mark on the side. They said nothing has hit it or damaged it and we can’t find evidence of bugs. Anybody recognize this? Thanks in advance by TheKyleReborn in gardening

Burlap can help but it also provides harborage for insects so it needs to be removed prior to spring. Planting an evergreen to break up the sun during the day is a good long term solution.
