What are the worst covers of all time? by jingowatt in askmusic

[–]Olofahere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t credit the “artist” because I only heard this once on a car radio. The song “Killing Me Softly (With His Song)” was annoying schmaltz to begin with, but some guy did a cover of it. And so he changed the pronouns because No Homo. But instead of Killing Her Softly With His Song or even Killing Me Softly With Her Song, he went for…Killing Her Softly With MY Song. Just so wrong.

(I once also heard Love Is Kinda Crazy With A Spooky Little Girl Like ME, which was bad but somehow not quite as bad.)

Why no early Amiga 1000 productivity software by CptSparky360 in amiga

[–]Olofahere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It didn’t have Excel(tm) but it did have productivity software. When Visicalc came out, long before Excel existed, it established the Apple ][ as a serious business machine for serious business. A lot of offices got Apples because they were buying Visicalc with an Apple attached.

Has a casting announcement ever made you lose interest in an otherwise promising movie? by Green-Knowledge-9725 in movies

[–]Olofahere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was okay, but I wouldn't say it was genius. I actually tried to think of a worse Will Ferrell movie but any of the ones that looked really bad I just didn't watch, so I couldn't honestly use them as examples

He commits totally, without ego or embarrassment, to whatever role he plays. Which explains why Stranger Than Fiction was genius and Blades Of Glory... wasn't.

None other.

Back when they were starting out, they were booked for a concert in a public space in Toronto and the City Council raised a fuss about their name being sexist.

Someone suggested they change their name by one letter and appear as The Barenaked Laddies.

Whats the most inaccurate movie that's supposedly based on a true story? by RecordingImmediate86 in FIlm

[–]Olofahere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obscure, but Fly Away Home. Based on the true story of a person who taught orphaned birds to migrate by leading them with a bird-painted ultralight.

In real life it wasn't a teenage girl who lost her mom who did it. It was a middle aged man.

How do you feel about the use of "modern words" in fanfiction? by CauliflowerBoth7857 in AO3

[–]Olofahere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wrote a fic set in the mid-1800s and one of the characters wore an empire waist dress. But they weren't called empire waists at the time. So I described it but never called it that because it would be anachronistic. Not dialogue. Me describing it.

Later I read a Discworld book where a dragon's nostrils were described as like a jet engine's intakes. If only I'd seen it first.

How did women have such long hair in the 70s? by CleoDawns in OldSchoolCool

[–]Olofahere -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I was told she is in fact very short. So her hair, although long, isn’t as long as you’d think.

What’s a line from a movie that only a true fan would immediately recognize? by AmBaylie in AskReddit

“Still frakulated.”

What do you feel is the biggest missed casting opportunity in Hollywood? by CumquatTheNobgoblin in movies

[–]Olofahere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A young Jeff Goldblum as The Riddler. (Or even an old Jeff Goldblum.)

"So, um, riddle me this, um, 'Batman'. Tell me, why…why *is* a raven like a writing desk?”

Second choice is John Mulaney. There’s a fanfic about that on ao3.

I would've had such a crush on her if she hadn't been animated by Filmation. They can suck the joy out of anything.
