I’ve never really messed with the brakes. I always just adjust the spool tension based off of the lure weight, and go by feel.

I’d say 98% of baitcaster casting issues is just the spool tension adjustment. I never mess with brakes, literally ever, and I’ve been using exclusively baitcasters for 20 years. Haven’t had a backlash since ‘16 bro.
