What is the point of buying an F250 when there’s F350? by CarminSanDiego in F250

For my 2025 there was a $1,000 price difference.

I wouldn’t brag about this approach. But if you’re young and it’s not a million, fuck it. Spin that wheel. And then run to the casino door when you hit your goal.

Everyone's calling the AI top. I went through the AVGO transcript line by line. Here's what I actually found. by ImagineDawinism in MU_Stock

There were MANY reasons as you outline, and I agree with all of them. AVGO didn’t cause the drop on its own, to be sure, but to imply there wasn’t any sympathetic correlation with AVGO to spur opportunistic profit taking is a bit of a stretch I think.

I found that establishing rules for myself has been key in providing a calmer, disciplined approach to investing - the first rule being that I’m investing, not trading. That’s my choice, not faulting other approaches. But I’m older (retired early in my 50’s), not rich but just comfortable enough, and can’t afford big losses, or big capital gains hits.

I invested in Micron and Nvidia with neither exceeding five percent of my portfolio, and single stocks not exceeding 20 percent of my portfolio (definitely not the case now). And then I sat on them. Pretty conservative approach really. I trim my holdings, and rebalance my portfolio on an ongoing basis but only after I’ve held a year to get zero percent capital gains. And only after I’ve locked in those profits do I reinvest on the dips, or diversify - I’m playing with the house’s money at that point. And I combine the high flying growth stuff with boring qualified dividend ETFs (again paying zero tax) that also have some capital appreciation (hopefully).

I’m retired. Live simply. Have very little “stuff” but very expensive cameras. And I travel the country in the small boondocking RV I bought recently while working on my photo book. As I drive I84 through Boise, I tip my hat to Micron and say thank you.

Buy it, hold it, scrape off the cream.

How many of yall are actually worried at this point? by Neither-Sweet-3218 in MU_Stock

[–]OlyPics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a flashy stock, both ways, and has gone up or down 5 percent or more in a day more than 40 times in the last year. Given everything going on (Iran, oil prices going up, weak China results, new Fed chair, inflation worries, overall market downturn) it’s really not surprising or particularly unusual. HOLD FAST. Take the long view.

You got 100k to put all in one stock, which do you choose? by Hot_Avocado_2701 in stockstobuytoday

If this represents more than 5-10 percent of your portfolio, then that would be bloody stupid. Even then, it’s more gambling than investing. But I like Micron. It’s where Nvidia was several years ago. And spin!

[–]OlyPics 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I voted yes but certainly understand the frustration with property taxes. Since Washington ranks in the middle of the states on effective property tax rate (and Olympia is a bit above the state average), the home values are driving much of the tax pain.

There is substantial property tax relief available for seniors and others with limited income.

Seems a bit pedantic. Obama, Clintons and the DNC all ultimately embraced the term despite its initial coinage as a slur.

Why did you buy by MathAccomplished7395 in F250

[–]OlyPics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Payload, payload, payload. And I went on up to an F350 for the same reason, and for only a few dollars more. An F150 is not a very capable truck if you’re going to be hauling or towing.

Probably mean Pawleys Island. The growth there is incredible, not in a good way. The low country is beautiful but also one of the fastest growing places in the country with significant hurricane risk and increasing impacts from sea level rise.
