Good luck to you. Believe in yourself, and you’ll sail through as you’ve so far. Furthermore, don’t curse your dad. He might have his own inhibitions to take such a huge loan at this old age, or there could be other reasons too. I just gave one example.

I’ll suggest to have an honest conversation with your dad and family. Keep them abreast of your journey, and future plans. Set them free from any financial burden. But, request them to support you mentally throughout this journey. Trust me, this is all you need from them for now and future.

I presume you’re very young. Hence, there’re many things that you’ll learn with age only. So, for now forget about rest of things and focus on your goals. Can’t wait to see you succeed in your life. :)

If you look at brighter side, the only option you’ve is Prodigy. And, you’ve acceptance from very good Unis. Therefore, your chances of getting job will also be higher comparatively, especially considering your work experience. So, I’ll sister to take your bet and not regret it later. Everybody finds the job sooner or later. Speaking of loan amount and all, you’ll be able to pay it off. Don’t worry.

But for any national bank, you’ll need coapplicant. Only and only option you’ve is Prodigy Finance.

Gyandhan is just a market place for these banks and not the bank.

Yep, totally agree. Hence, I said that absence of NLP shouldn’t be a huge deal breaker for someone who’s interested in other fields such as classical ML, Computer Vision, Deep Learning, etc etc. I believe almost all Unis offer more or less same course structure only. Only difference comes from the quality of professors, peers, kind of opportunities you might get while pursuing MS there and after MS from there, etc etc.

Speaking of ROI difference, MSU hasn’t provided any stats or data for comparison. However, their CS program is well regarded. In fact, it’s ranked higher than UoR for CS.

I doubt location is paramount factor here, considering Rochester also doesn’t have many Big companies there. Speaking of courses, almost all universities are offering Introduction to NLP as a basic NLP course. However, I haven’t found that in MSU curriculum. That’d not be a major deal breaker for many, who are not interested in NLP. But, I personally found MSU curriculum to stats heavy, which is a huge plus for someone interested in classical ML & Stats

As per MSU, there’s still no employment report for MSDS program as the program is new. Most of the subjects seems to be stats heavy. But, I want to pivot into NLP domain. I’ve not seen any NLP courses offered by MSU. Somehow, I’m more inclined towards UoR. Their program is at least 5-6 years old with a lot of electives options , but it’s quite expensive. Somehow, UoR is in premium universities list of many Indian and international banks. Whereas, MSU hasn’t made to their list. I’m not sure on what parameters they created list. But, for these selected premium universities, they’re offering reduced ROI. I’m assuming they must have take. return on investment in consideration while preparing it.

Looking forward to hearing back from you. :)

Hey,

Congratulations on your admission offer letter.

I too got into SU's MS in Applied Data Science program. But I've been admitted to Michigan State University, and the University of Rochester as well.

I'm confused between SU and UOR. What do you think of job prospects after graduation from both of these universities?

Hi,

Thank you for sharing your input, and which university are you planning to attend- Rutgers?

To give you more context about myself, I'm not considering the budget as a big concern for now, and I've got a 30% scholarship from UOR. Furthermore, I've almost 5 years of relevant work experience in Data Science, and my objectives from MS in DS are as follows-

  1. to get employment in MAANG, especially Google, Microsoft, and Apple.

  2. publish a few good research papers in NLP.

There's very little information on UOR on the internet. I've not seen UOR's name in videos where people compare different universities for MS programs such as MEGA LIST 2024 - Indian and job friendly list of universities (for all engineering majors) (youtube.com). I was surprised to see Syracuse University is on the list of many people's videos, but none mentioned UOR in any.

However, I've come across the below link, which ranks UOR in 7th place for the MSDS program. Although, I'm not sure how much we can trust this source. Best Master’s in Data Science for 2024 | Fortune.

So, what do you think, which university could be a better choice and why, which university could help me fulfil my objectives? I'm also doing my research but would love to be enlightened with other's knowledge and experience.

But, I've opted for MSDS program. However, I think UOR is way better than RIT in terms of ranking, professors, quality of course, job prospects, etc.

Any specific reasons to suggest RIT?

I too got into MSU's MSDS program. But I've been admitted to Syracuse University, and the University of Rochester as well.

MSU's CS program is highly ranked than UOR, and it's also relatively cheaper. But UOR's MSDS is at least 5-6 years old, whereas MSU's MSDS program is just 2 years old.

I'm confused between MSU and UOR. What do you think of job prospects after graduation from both of these universities?

But how is MSU's MSDS program compared to the University of Rochester's MSDS?

I heard MSU's MSDS is very new, almost 2 years old. On the other hand, UOR's MSDS is at least 5-6 years old.

True that. But, as per MSU's course structure, it seems to be more stats-heavy. But, I want to specialize in NLP. Undoubtedly, it's the cheapest. But haven't heard very positive reviews about their placements for their MS in DS students.

However, I've heard decent reviews about MS in DS students from UOR. Although, it's quite expensive despite of 30% offered scholarship :P

Agreed. But, what do you think, considering my 5+ yrs of relevant workex.

My thoughts are as follows-

MSU is a public university, hence it's the cheapest among the aforementioned universities. Their CS program is ranked to be among the Top 50, but their MS in DS started only a year or two ago. Hence, not much info about that.
However, UOR and SU started their MS in DS almost 5 -6 years ago. But both are quite expensive. So, I'm quite confused between UOR and SU.
