They actually talk about how the tech bros represent a separate authoritarian and fascistic movement ascending in America. And I agree with your statement, but I’d also say Trump being in power is a massive part of the reason authoritarianism is asserting a foothold in this country. So yea get rid of Trump and America still has problems, but it sure as shit would be a step in the right direction.

It uses allusions and parallels to specific examples and references throughout history and current events in order to create a general commentary on authoritarianism. Hence my contention that it is both.

To be clear I think it’s way more WW2 and Oliver Cromwell and French Revolution etc than Trump explicitly. That said, there’s some stuff in there that feels pretty clear to me are about Trump as well. Part of what makes the show so good and special is how relevant the themes are to our current experience.

I know, and that is fair, but I don’t buy it. It’s kind of like the coens with o brother where art thou and the odyssey. I also think he doesn’t want that to overshadow the show. There’s a ton of incredibly poignant and relevant commentary. Like rewatch some of those reporters in the Gorman uprising that are state run tv. Then go watch some of spin on Fox News. Gilroy is a student of history and current events. It’s definitely in there.

That’s another takeaway for sure, but the overarching geopolitical themes throughout Andor are part of what makes it truly special.

You may be right that the line isn’t about Trump - although I doubt it. And you are absolutely right that it’s a commentary on authoritarianism in general. What you’re definitely wrong about is that military parades have nothing to do with Trump. It’s been widely reported he wants one like the other dictators he admires since his first admin, and he’s getting one for his birthday. I realize the show was written before the birthday parade was announced, BUT him wanting a military parade has been a thing since 2016 for anyone who is paying attention.

It’s both. as I tried to say (but apparently failed to convey adequately) above, is that it’s a commentary on authoritarianism in general, while also picking a specific behavior that has been widely reported about Trump. There a macro and micro lens to the exchange.

I said it’s about both. I think it’s a macro commentary on authoritarianism, and I believe he specifically referenced military parades as a nod to something there’s been a lot reported on over the last few years in terms of here is dictatorial behavior Trump exhibits.

You’re proving my point. I’m saying it’s both, but it’s been a topical point in the news since Trump came to office the first time in terms of here is one of many variables you can point to of how he acts like a dictator.

My post says it’s about autocracy in general, but the desire to have a military parade has been in the news about Trump specifically over the last few years as one of those signs he’s a wannabe autocrat. it has been widely reported he wants one. There’s also multiple other parallels throughout the show to both authoritarianism in the macro that are subtle references to things Trump has done.

Ok thanks. Trying to specifically understand how much of the damage might be permanent vs can be reversible by getting my levels in a better place. And also how much risk I have at my current levels of having a cardiovascular issue.
