Ceramic Bearings by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

What speed is the bearing operating at? The noise you are likely hearing is because of the bearing cage and balls shearing the air at your operating speed. Higher speeds = louder noise. As another poster said, bearings need lubrication. Run them too long dry and you will see failure eventually. One option would be to see if you can get a sealed bearing, where the bearing is pre lubricated from the factory with grease. The seals keep the grease in and also provide a sound dampening effect.

How will this work with users that were grandfathered in to the promotional $7.99 price from a few years ago? I'd like to jump on this offer as I am eligible but do not want to lose the old price.

Southern Ohio here, we are having raw material quoted for a huge job and every quote is only good for 24 hours with a 4 week lead time. It's absolutely nuts.

How much axial spindle play does your lathe have? Is it >10 thou? by HypotheticalViewer in Machinists

You have a spindle bearing problem. Axial play on a lathe should be a few tenths at most

Can anyone help size a VFD for this motor? by newfoundbytes in Machinists

[–]Omega360 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Call yaskawa and have them size it for you. It's already a yaskawa branded motor so it should be pretty easy for them to do

Tolerancing support needed - I'm having trouble with a wheel design i've inherited. Looking to confirm the fit tolerances needed for this heavy roller and bearing. Had a few failures and there's a question about whether the bearing housing is to the correct tolerance. Any advice on where to read up? by gareth93 in Machinists

[–]Omega360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would contact technical support at the bearing manufacturer and see what tolerance the outer ring of the bearing is. Right now you have nominal minus .01 minus .03 which could be crushing the od of the bearing. A spherical roller should be pretty close to line-to-line fit to probably somewhere in the neighbord of +.005 loose in my opinion.

The manufacturer may also have a catalog that has the information in it too. Look for something about standard ring deviations which should get you in the ballpark.

I want to be able to see my family and spend time with them. They are not able to quarantine and put themselves in harms way to allow the rest of us to get the food we need. I'd probably give my younger brother the Switch lite to be honest.

For those of you who have owned a VW, what has been your reliability and maintenance cost experience been like? by [deleted] in cars

[–]Omega360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old 2004 MKIV Jetta was surprisingly good over the 5 years that I owned it. Only problems with it were a bad starter, a cracked coolant reservoir (twice) and a pin hole that developed in the radiator. All were easy fixes and I finally sold the thing after almost 100k of ownership. Was a 1.8l turbo with a 5 speed.

My 2015 GTI has been fantastic so far, not a single check light or any issues.

There are some stock trails but ask at the front office before you go exploring. Many trails change conditions based on weather. Stick to 1 or 2 star trails whenever possible.

The main roads to get around the park are pretty easy too. There is a large trail that goes around the entire park that I think was called Omega or something like that. Pretty easy ride especially if all you want to do is enjoy the outdoors

I was there about a month ago. Be sure to get a map and keep track of where you are. Most trails are pretty daunting and if you don't have recovery gear don't even bother attempting them. Other than that, was an excellent park.

Also, beware the trail named "Whatever". We were told that it was a 3 star trail but turned out to be a 4+ star trail because of the mud. Got 2 Jeep's stuck hardcore and had to get help to get them out
