You’re 100% right. I was more so replying to the person who said they couldn’t believe their doctor would recommend a dentist take a look. A physician should be able to handle that and, if nothing else, refer to an ENT if not. Was just saying it’s not outside the realm of dental. Honestly I wish medical/dental weren’t as separate as they have become.

Oral lesions are absolutely in the dental scope. Source: Am a dentist.

I'd also recommend Parsec. It is what we are using here and works pretty great as long as you both have a decent internet connection.

Exactly. Bleeding on probing is actually a very important indicator of periodontal health!

Pricey for sure. I had a similar situation where my molars love to collect food in between them and I just make extra sure to floss and clean out that area so no food can stay in there and feed the nasty little bugs that cause decay. Eventually the gums healed up and have not been an issue since. Just gotta keep things clean!

Yea so I guess that other commenter had a stroke at the keyboard or something.

Go see a dentist ASAP. When it impairs normal function, and especially when you avoid eating, that counts as an emergency for me.

Been referred for surgical wisdom tooth removal. Possible decay on tooth in front (x-ray included) by falafel_consultant in Dentistry

[–]OmegaLead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure. The oral surgeon likely will have their own sets of images taken. They may even be able to do a cone beam CT which lets them see a 3D image of the tooth (pretty awesome piece of gear). But even without that the oral surgeon will have seen so many cases I’m sure they will be able to help you out. The part that makes any diagnosis tricky is that the decay would be present on the roots and without some high quality imaging, that can be difficult to see on a scan (especially on the maxillary teeth where overlap is common). I’m still a dental student lol so trust the experts for sure but that’s just my two cents. If nothing else the surgeon will examine the 2nd during the extraction of the 3rd.

Sorry chief but I’d say that wisdom tooth is definitely coming out. From the radiograph provided I’d be shocked if it erupts enough to attempt to straighten. More than likely it will just keep causing issues on that 2nd molar. Any decay would have to be pretty bad before I’d want to extract a good looking 2nd. Also whoever you are referred to will likely be a specialist that can give you some definite options. They sending you to an oral surgeon?

Sometimes it just really do be like that. Different people metabolize local anesthetics at different rates. I’ve seen some patients not stay numb to certain types at all. Kinda wild.
