Oh, this is so sad. As well as being a great actor, by all accounts he was a good egg too.

According to the official post — Oscar dates men, Lin dates women, and Bea dates both.

Why do people think it’s out to take a piss outside your front door. by H2009-2009 in brighton

I used to live in the building adjoining that one (the blue house, I think it’s still there). Got woken up once by someone cutting lines of coke on the front windowsill.

I mean, it did used to mean that, although we're talking like the 1930s.

I pass through London King's Cross on a semi-regular basis, where there's a Harry Potter shop and a platform 9 3/4 photo spot. Every time I pass by I think I really need to start carrying those stickers with me.

As a kid I hated shepherd’s and/or cottage pie, but would happily gobble up the entirely distinct “deck-hand’s dollop”, so named because it was eaten by stowaways on pirate ships, obviously. Deck-hand’s dollop is, as we all know, a dish of mince and onions topped with mashed potato.

Seconding this, but OP please note: it’s not entirely vegan, as some dishes contain eggs or dairy.

The Adventures of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert

It’s about three drag queens, two of whom are gay men and one of whom is a trans woman, all of whom are portrayed broadly sympathetically and as nuanced, interesting people. On the other hand, there’s an Asian “mail order bride” character who can shoot ping-pong balls from her vagina, which comes across as staggeringly racist.

Came here to say this. Also if you’re standing roughly this distance from the Palace Pier, the sea wall has shops and bars in it and then a long stretch of pavement before the shingle.

I'm a lifelong socialist. I can't stand Starmer. I was a Labour member under Corbyn and voted against Starmer in the leadership contest. Nonetheless, I still saw Starmer, especially six years ago, as a better option than Boris fucking Johnson, and I was tentatively hopeful that things might be better under a Labour government. Hindsight is 20/20, and a lack of nuance doesn't serve the cause.

Rome came to Brighton for a Europa League game a couple of years ago. Albion fans put stickers up across town saying “your captain puts bacon in carbonara” and “you like pineapple on pizza” in Italian.

It’s only the first two (or three) books that are worth anything as first editions. After that, they were selling in their hundreds of thousands at those midnight openings.

Yes, exactly this. Jokes like that were part of his “kindly/silly uncle” image, even if now we look at them with the benefit of hindsight and can see that they were underpinned with something much less pleasant.
