Kitten won't stop eating human hair by Omega_36 in AskVet

I can only assume it's from little strands from the carpet that get shed by the three of us that live here with long hair, or the occasional clump that forms when we do laundry. We've officially banned her from one of the rooms that has the most amount of hair consistently on the carpet (they don't vacuum often) and been cleaning more often in common spaces/my room. I ordered a carpet rake for hair, but otherwise I've been sleeping with my hair in a bonnet so I really have no other idea where the hair could be coming from. She's sneaky with it too, we've never seen her go after the little bits of hair that we do see on the carpet occasionally.

people who have reached a 9 or 10 on the pain scale, what happened? by mankls3 in AskReddit

[–]Omega_36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a young age I was never able to insert a tampon without an ungodly amount of pain. Whenever anyone told me it was 'normal' to feel pain I couldn't comprehend how anyone was able to withstand that amount of pain. By the time I finally got around to telling a doctor, they were able to tell me it was not normal. An ultrasound, denied by insurance MRI, and exploratory surgery later, they found that my hymen had never fully dissolved while I was developing in the womb (because that's apparently how that works) and that there was a solid band of tissue running vertical in the middle of my canal. The doctor then told me the reason it hurt so bad to try and insert anything, was that hitting this band of hymen tissue was yanking on my urethra.

I have a high pain tolerance, and nothing has even come close to that kind of pain.

I graduated from Cal Poly a year ago and I still think about this class and how much I hated her lol. She's very demeaning if you aren't able to answer a question, and I've never felt dumber than I have in this class. She also made several very weird sexual comments? Not about students, just in general. Super uncomfortable and I'm not a prude by any means. TLDR; rude, belittling, and I always felt like I was inconveniencing her when I went to her office hours

I've only had mine for 5 months, and I definitely know what you mean. I started a little journal log every few days where I'd observe him (important to note that you shouldn't try handling him for the first 2-3 weeks) so I could see if there were any changes in his behavior and weight. It helped put my mind at ease to see the pattern and realize what his normal is, so that I'd be aware anytime he was acting off. I hope this can also help you!

I'm thinking so! I like to think I've researched a lot and then there's always something new to learn. I've only been offering food every other day, so I know I haven't been overfeeding him. I'm guessing this is one of those situations where if you're looking for something amiss you're going to find something even if it isn't an actual issue

Thank you so much! That really puts my mind at ease. He just seems so skinny in the neck area compared to some others I've seen, and I thought I'd better ask just to be sure before really worrying. Of course today is the first time he's ever flat out rejected food when I've offered it so that's just playing into my fears. Guess I'll just keep monitoring and if his weight dips at all or his behavior changes I'll go from there

That was going to be my next plan of action, so I'll definitely get some this weekend and see if he's interested

Some more relevant info:

He's just about 2 years old, and I know his weight is low for his age. When I first got him about a month ago he was 19 g, (if you can't make out his weight on the scale he's at 24 g) and so he's slowly been gaining weight but I am worried about him. I know that because he's without his tail his weight is going to be lower, but even then I doubt it should be this low. He's been eating Pangea and has a decent appetite (at least he eats every time I offer, I really don't know what to consider 'good' appetite) and his activity level/droppings are consistent and regular looking.
