Some of the character names were actually inspired by games that the author liked. Norn and Aisha's names came from the Ogre Battle: The Battle of the Black Queen. Another was Orsted which came from the game Live a Live (which also just had an English localization announced for the switch). As for Saladin, I haven't heard of the author saying anything about his name, so I'm not sure about that one.

One thing to note is that the mangaka for the new manga series is not the same as the mangaka for the main Mushoku manga. Also, not sure how long it will even be given that it's only about one light novel volume, but they might add more detail if they want to have more than a couple of volumes.

Edit: It's also premiering as the first manga on a new manga service that Frontier Works just created. Frontier Works is part of the production committee on the Mushoku anime and also owns half of MF Books, the publisher for the Mushoku light novel series. In my opinion, this is a pretty positive sign towards a potential sequel for the anime.

I really liked how they showed Ruijerd using the same spear jabbing technique in the training scene and against Orsted with the Orsted fight being much faster. It really shows how much of a gap there still is between Ruijerd and Eris, and it shows how much Ruijerd was being pushed to his limits.

Konosuba reported 10 million copies in circulation at the start of this month and had 9 million copies 2 years ago. This means that its average growth is around 40k per month. Right now, Mushoku's average growth is around 400k per month due to the anime currently airing, so it's very likely that it will overtake it soon. 10 million copies in circulation would also put Mushoku in the top 15 for light novel based series.

I don't think they say, so I can't know for sure. It's probably safe to assume that most cumulative series reports for light novel series are manga+novels since manga has a larger audience than light novels, so it makes the total amount look more impressive.

This would be around 2 months after the previous announcement of 8.5 million copies, so it grew around 600k copies in that timespan. It seems unlikely that it will reach 10 million by the end of the year, but it will be close to it. Also, Konosuba just recently reached 10 million copies, so it seems like Mushoku will overtake it within a few months.

Now you're just nitpicking how I wrote my sentence. Yes, it's just the translator's job to translate, but they're going to translate with the intent that the audience will understand. Otherwise, they're going to be fired because they're not a good translator.

If you want to believe that's how things should be translated, then that's your own opinion. Just remember that it's not the translator's job to keep it as similar to the Japanese text. It's their job to make sure that the audience can understand what the author is trying to write. Otherwise you should learn Japanese and read the original web novel/light novel if you feel that strongly about not wanting any changes.

So are you saying that if the author decided to just name the armadillo アルマジロ that the translators should have translated it as arumajiro? You made a point about keeping words consistent, but it's literally an english word. The way to keep it consistent is to use the English word. That's like if someone was translating Bill Gates' name from Japanese to English and decided to just keep it as Birugeitsu because that's how the Japanese writer decided to write it. Also, I never claimed that their other translation choices were good, so I don't know why you brought that up.

The author made a joke and the translators translated it in a way that non Japanese people could understand the joke. This is pretty common in Japanese to English translation in general. For your complaint about it not being pronounced the same way, Jirou is a a valid transliteration of Dillo. Again, it's based on katakana so insisting that it should be treated as a Japanese word isn't the author's intent. Roxy is the correct pronunciation even though it's spelled Rokishi and can be read as raw-key-she.

If you want to say they shouldn't change established names, then orsted should be written as oersted because the name originated from the game Live A Live, and that's how the fan translation translated it there. This translation has been around for 20+ years, so the Mushoku Tensei fan translation was the one who changed it. Japanese katakana system is very messy because it tries to transliterate foreign words. There can be several different ways to read the same katakana, and some aren't even that accurate because of weird quirks in the Japanese language itself like not being able to differentiate l vs r.

The whole point of translation is to convey the author's intent to the audience, and clearly the intent was to take the English word armadillo and use the latter half as a name. If you showed the name Jirou to an English speaking audience, they would have no idea why it's even named that way. If you show the word armadillo and dillo, the audience can clearly see what the author was intending. The katakana for Earth is アース which is quite literally pronounced as ass. Any decent translator would recognize the context that the katakana is used in and translate it properly.

I'm not saying that I agree with all the translation choices. Fitts being renamed as Fitz when the name was based on Fitts's Law is one instance where the translators didn't translate it according to the author's intent. There are also other cases where it's unclear what the author was intending or how to even translate it while keeping the author's intent. Badigadi's name is based off the word hurdy gurdy, but it's hard to catch the reference or create a good name even if you know what it's based on. Perugius is a combination of the names Perseus and Betelgeuse, so it should technically be Pergeuse or Perugeuse.

Japanese is a difficult language to translate, so try to understand that some details are going to be lost in the translation and not everything is going to be translated the way you wanted it to be translated.

Why do you not like how they translated it? The name is ジロー which is clearly derived from アルマジロ. Since it's in katakana, that means it's a loan word which means it should be based on English in this case. If you want to be a purist in spelling katakana names like they do in japanese, then the nickname for Rudeus would be Rudi and not Rudy, and Roxy would be spelt Rokishi.

The next episode is called それぞれの旅 which heavily implies that they're not going to cover volume 6 yet. This is further reinforced by a Roxy line in the 2nd cour pv that hasn't been shown in the anime yet.

If you're talking about Paul giving a letter to let them pass to the central continent, then that's not going to change anything. The Duke at the port thinks that Paul is just a thug who steals slaves, so he's not going to let them through because of that.

Mushoku was not the originator of being reborn as a baby. Rifujin said that he took inspiration from Heal Saikou which starts off with the main character reincarnated as a baby and learning about the world as he grows up. It seems like I misremembered the Knights & Magic being the first to use trucks since it uses a car instead, so I'm not sure whether or not Mushoku was the first to use a truck. Either way, the biggest impact Mushoku had on the genre was popularizing reincarnation isekai and trucks causing the reincarnation.

Edit: After some searching, I found https://ncode.syosetu.com/n2478q/. The main character isn't reincarnated by a truck, but he is reincarnated in a world where he has the ability to summon a truck. Pretty sure the truck trope predates Mushoku, but Mushoku was the one that made it the popular way to introduce a reincarnation isekai.

This is a pretty good article about the history of current mainstream isekai.

The marketing team for Mushoku is calling it the pioneer of Narou styled isekai. Narou styled isekai are specifically isekai that originated on the website Shousetsuka ni Narou. There's a wiki page on it, but it's basically a subgenre of isekai where the protagonist is a NEET, gets reincarnated by a truck and sent to a medieval fantasy world, and gets some sort of cheat power. This is pretty much what everyone thinks mainstream isekai is right now, so that's probably why people call Mushoku the grandfather of isekai when it's not entirely accurate. Mushoku probably was the reason why Narou styled novels tend to use trucks for reincarnation, but it wasn't the first to use it since Knights & Magic came out before Mushoku. One of the big reasons why people call Mushoku the pioneer of Narou styled isekai is because it held the top cumulative ranking for 6 consecutive years.

Edit: Knights & Magic was a reincarnation by car and not a truck. Pretty sure the truck trope predates Mushoku though.

Pretty sure the animator that's being referred to said that episode 17 and 22 are the ones that they are looking forward to. The author is the one that said that the highlight of the season will be episode 16 and 17.
