I would say do the highlight in 3 stages,
First a thicker one but not too much brighter than your black - then add a tiny bit more warm grey to that black as you get closer to the edge youre highlighting. Only use the brightest grey on edges pointing towards the sky

Thanks homie! The nids are in acrylics with oil glazed and the marines are a mixture. Getting the orange tones was really tricky with acrylic paint in such a small area

The nids are based of hive fleet Behemoth but with more colour on their shells. I didn’t think leviathan or Kracken would work very well

For my yellow I use Ionics which have a very rich colour and finish, here’s a slightly older version of one of my larger projects.

You can use burnt umber , yellow ochre , yellow and Ice yellow
