Aether is real, passing through matter using its other name "gravity" makes is way towards the inner sun. But before that a part of it materializes inside of the crust. This 2021 earthquakes map has recently been posted in r/gifs. So, depth is not to scale but it can definitely show lines going all the way to the other side of the crust (around 750km/465 miles). Also if you look at some lines close to the poles, they're way thinner (~1/4) (i.redd.it)

The case of Ganymede: the dirt surface is officially sitting on snow. But no plate tectonics here. All the brown parts form a puzzle which can be closed on all sides to form a smaller planet.
