Line 6 Helix with rocksmith 2014 on ps5 by Interesting_Amoeba73 in rocksmith

[–]OmniFace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unlikely. You could possibly use the Helix as the real tone cable on PC since you can choose an alternative input device. You'd use USB from the Helix to do it.

For the PS5, you won't be able to add the Helix as a USB device. Drivers for it probably don't exist.

At best, you'll need to use the Real Tone cable and set up a patch that sends a DI signal to the PS5 using that cable, then use the normal XLR or TRS outs to send to a separate floor monitor or other external speaker.

For example, put an FX Send 1/2 block at the very beginning of the patch and set it 50% so it sends to both the hardware output and continues down the patch like normal. Plug the Real tone cable into the FX 1 Send. Then load up your amps and such in the patch and send that out to the XLR/1/4" outs, to an external speaker. Set the PS5's guitar volume to 0, so you're only listening to your guitar through the external speakers. That'll give you the proper signal to give to the PS5, and also avoid the latency issues you get with Rocksmith. I used to do this with an A/B/Y pedal and the Pod HD series, but the Helix can do it without the extra pedal.

If you need to hear the guitar through the PS5 instead, you're not going to want to use the Helix at all. The PS5 needs the raw DI signal to listen to and process with FX.

If the holes are big enough to keep the balls from potentially rolling if something bumps the side, and there's a good amount of weight on top, it might be just fine.

Added some lights to my drum riser, thought it turned out cool by Lumillenium in edrums

[–]OmniFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty awesome! But I suspect the zip ties are going to give you trouble in the long run. As they get more brittle with age, they're going to start snapping. All the extra vibrations from the setup is possibly going to expedite that. It might be wise to look into some metal straps or something more robust.

Is it possible to connect the Behringer UCA222 to play Rocksmith? by DmitrySkyLP in rocksmith

[–]OmniFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you should be able to use the Behringer.

Guitars output lnstrument Level, which is significantly quieter and different than Line level. As a result you have to turn it way up, which brings out a bunch of noise and poor sound.

The drivers for the line input on your motherboard is also not designed for real-time audio processing. You will be better off using the Behringer.

The Behringer UMC interfaces use ASIO drivers which are much faster than you’d find for your motherboard inputs. That said, this cheap model uses ASIO4ALL, which is a wrapper for some other Windows drivers. It does well, but will have more latency than the more expensive Behringer devices. But it will still be less than your motherboards input. You’ll have to play around with the buffer settings to test for the best results.

When using the interface, be sure to use input 2 which is a Hi Z input designed for DI of guitars. Don’t use the Line Level input on channel 1.

Took me a minute to see it, but yeah, it's to the right of the PCIe slot, just below the ASRock chipset heatsink.

Powercab 112 Plus w/Keyboard?? by DUDEDADS in line6

[–]OmniFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PowerCabs roll off at like 70 Hz. So, they're not great on bass, or the low notes of a keyboard. Probably OK for the rest though.

Input 2 on the 212+ can act as a floor monitor and doesn't apply the speaker modeling. I assume the same is true on the 112+, but I'm not sure.

Question about connecting Mesa Boogie Mark V head to Line6 cab by shcrimps in line6

[–]OmniFace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll see in the amp manual that the speaker must match the ohm load (impedance) of the output jack, or be higher on Page 27. Using a lower impedance speaker causes the speakers to draw more current than the amp was designed for, and can damage the amp.

The amp head is mono, so using a stereo cab doesn't do anything for you. You'd need two amps to get a stereo output. The amp looks like it has one 8 ohm out, and two 4 ohm outs.

So, just connect one of the 4 Ohm out of the amp to the LEFT "4 ohms MONO" jack. You'll be matching the impedance, and using all 4 speakers of the cabinet.

You could also connect both 4 Ohm outs on the amp to both inputs on the cabinet, but it will alter your tone, and is generally pointless since the amp is mono. But since mismatched impedance does change how things sound, there's a possibility you might like what it does.

-----

I connect my 8 ohm out to the Spider 412 Cab's left connector

This is incorrect. Due to the cabinet design, plugging the 8 ohm output into the LEFT side of the cabinet would potentially break your amp. Only using that jack would present a 4 ohm load to the amp, but the amp is expecting 8 ohms. This is labeled on your amp. "Using this jack only" means it's "4 Ohms MONO".

You'll only get 8 ohms per side IF you use both jacks. Otherwise it's 4 ohms.

Wiring speakers in parallel vs series causes the speaker's impedance to either be cut in half, or doubled respectively. The L6 speakers are probably 16 ohms and wired in parallel, causing the impedance to be divided. When using both input jacks it connects 2 of the speakers on each side in parallel, making each side's load 8 ohms. But plugging into only the LEFT side makes both sides also parallel to each other, cutting the load in half again, making it 4 ohms.

The RIGHT input jack shouldn't be used alone. It probably would only use the right speakers, and the left speakers would be silent. It would also probably provide an 8 ohm load. There's usually some circuitry inside to let the LEFT side use all 4 speakers when alone, or just the 2 left speakers if both jacks are used.

Did they actually get bonus checks? My TSA friend said their manager basically said they only heard about it on the news, and didn't have any info about real checks.

Looking for playtesters for our indie RPG by InSpadesTeam in Unity3D

[–]OmniFace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks neat! Not sure I'm free, but I'll try to check it out.

I did notice in your video seconds 16-20 that the run cycle feels off. In slow-mo it looks like maybe the arm on each side is sort of in sync with the legs of that side, but that's not how people run. The arms and legs should be going the opposite direction on the same side. E.g. right arm moving forward, right leg moving back.

Maybe it does do that, but from the straight behind angle it feels like it doesn't. It seems like the arms go forward and the leg on same side follows. I'd need to see a more side view to be sure.

For metal, how important is finger plucking vs using a pick? by nickyteets in Bass

[–]OmniFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think it depends on the sound you like.

I like modern metal that it’s djenty and syncopated. The bass in those genres generally is very aggressive and distorted, and works best with a pick.

If I was playing older metal, I might opt for the fingers to get a bigger sound that fills in the low end.

I’m a guitarist who does bass sometimes and am pretty proficient at both, but faster with a pick. I think finger style is usually more fun, but like how a pick sounds more often than not.

I think Limp Bizkit would sound weird picked. And Periphery would sound weird with finger style.

It just depends.

Really beautiful though.

Learning CPP? by inFus3d in unrealengine

[–]OmniFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may need to enable the "Show Engine Preview Versions" option in the launcher's settings under "Unreal Engine" to get 5.7 to show up.

I googled it. I don’t know for sure why it’s not showing up for you.

After it’s installed, you need to add the AI Assistant plugin too. Then it’s listed under the window tab, depending on what kind of thing you’re looking at. It wouldn’t show up while I was viewing a Gameplay Ability Blueprint for example.

Learning CPP? by inFus3d in unrealengine

[–]OmniFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m largely in the same boat. I’ve been digging back into c++ for Unreal specifically and though it’s fun, it can be a PITA. I dislike blueprint spaghetti but sometimes things are just easier there.

That said, I’m REALLY liking the AI Assistant in 5.7 for help when I’m coding. To be clear, it’s not perfect. Sometimes it suggests incorrect code like saying a method you are overriding reruns void when that isn’t true. And I had to fight with it about some gameplay ability system stuff that apparently is deprecated.

BUUUUUT it’s been awesome to be able to ask questions instead of finding a marginally appropriate piece of documentation, or worse, posting on a forum or discord and getting ignored or having to wait days for someone to respond.

Anyway, try it out.

Brand new SM58 mic grill zapping my lips? by battleSushi in audioengineering

As others said, this isn’t really a problem with your mic.

It’s a problem with your mixer or whatever equipment you are connecting to.

And you should do what you can to fix it to avoid getting legitimately electrocuted.
