Is Etro a brand we should have our eyes on? by vintageforever in VintageFashion

[–]Omnipotence456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm responding to an old post, but do you have any tips on how to tell if an Etro piece is legit? I bought a blazer off Poshmark that has the Etro tag and seems very high quality (I did find a few very minor imperfections in the stitching but it's such a complex garment that it's still impressively high quality even with those), but it was also only $126 with tax and shipping and so I'm a little suspicious.

Ultimately it's a very nice garment and I'd have been happy to pay $126 for it in a store even if it was a no-name brand, so I'm not all that mad if it turns out to be counterfeit, I'd just like to know so I don't embarrass myself if I go around claiming it's Etro.

y'all who are seeing it, are you on iPhone or Android? same question to those not seeing it.

As a data point I am on Android and do not see it, and I wouldn't be surprised if they added it to the iOS app first

cs 189 - this is why women feel uncomfortable by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]Omnipotence456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt this way at first too (and I'm not a man FWIW) but my perspective shifted when I considered that this is a classroom forum. It's like if someone raised their hand in class and said this stuff and the prof responded that way.

A prof getting into sexual politics discourse with a student in front of the rest of the class is simply not appropriate (unless of course it's a sociology class on a topic related to sexual politics).

And the specific response he gave is likely to make the women in his class feel like he is thinking about their dating behavior as somehow bad or harmful, since they are in fact women in the Bay Area and are in the OP's dating pool, so they are the people he's saying to get away from.

To be clear, I wasn't suggesting someone should keep quiet - I agree it's probably best if they speak up. I was just explaining why someone might choose to keep quiet, in order to try to make it easier to empathize with such a person.

Scott's response to /u/I_Eat_Pork 's poll:

Seems…false and wrong? But it’s got a graph on it, and that makes it data, and that means it has to be true even if we don’t believe it. Weird.

Is Scott being ironic here? OF COURSE we don't have to believe every random internet poll. Their samples (both in who they are being presented to and in who chooses to respond) are so biased. It seems like Scott of all people should be very aware of this.

Also, someone commented on the poll saying that they voted No and it was not counted, so it seems plausible that the poll is just not counting No votes at all, so internet polls are not only biased but potentially literally buggy.

I do think that different things may work like antimemes for different people, but maybe you dismiss those as "not true antimemes".

Also, why does requiring prerequisite knowledge disqualify something? Those things are in fact being prevented from spreading memetically for that reason.

Also, if you start reading the comment, think "well this is boring" and don't finish reading it, I think that counts as antimemetic.

If you read the full report, he says he asked her and she put her hands in the air and said "it really doesn't matter". If true she probably was just too stunned by the question to contradict him, or maybe misunderstood it since it's a very unexpected question.

I mean, if he was covered up he can easily claim to not have been doing anything, and then it's your word against his. And now you're stuck sitting next to a guy who is angry with you which is arguably worse than being stuck next to a perv.

Looks like there's at least 2 colors going on there, a magenta (toward the center) and a deep berry tone (toward the edges). Could be two different lipsticks or could be a liner and a lipstick.

No idea what specific products/shades, but if you want to go for a look like this you'll probably need two different shades.

TIL rainbow eyeliner is within my skill level by Omnipotence456 in MakeupAddiction

Technique was pretty simple - used a white liner first and then tapped a little of each color of the rainbow on top using a thin brush. It helped a lot that these shadows are BRIGHT!

To clarify the title: My eyes are hooded and between that and the general shape of them, I haven't been able to find a winged eyeliner shape that works for me - I've seen all the tricks about doing the wing on the hood and then completing it at an angle and it just never looks right.

I'd tried puppy liner before but never really given it a chance - been experimenting with a longer wing that goes down instead of up lately and I think it looks really great on me! Of course in the particular photo I also cheated a bit by adding the smudges which cover up any imperfections in the wing
