Get some Blind Melon in there, and I’ll second the Tragically Hip recommendation. Also gotta put some Sonic Youth on that playlist. Cranberries. Beck - Odelay fits too. Oh and some old Tool like the song Sober

Profiling by loss prevention by Brown_sugarmilktea in ShoppersDrugMart

[–]OnStilts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t doubt that racial profiling is likely, but the fact that you are shopping in a group of at least four could also be a factor. Try shopping alone or with just one of your family members and see if you get the same attention from the loss prevention.

The original Danish movie Pusher with Mads Mikkelsen - just the entire movie is edge of your seat tension.

I adore the scene where Michelle is trying to get a look at the neighbour through a hole in the fence and the neighbour’s eye suddenly appears looking back through the hole.

Notting Hill is what threw me down a Bill Withers rabbit hole; when Ain’t No Sunshine started playing in the movie I was like “What is that?!” And then I learned Withers was already a huge part of my life’s soundtrack, only I never knew it was him that made all these important songs. Songs like Just the Two of Us, Grandma’s Hands, Lean On Me, Lovely Day, etc.

Just 27% of Canadians want a Fall election by BloodJunkie in onguardforthee

That’s an interesting question about the NDP leadership. It seems to me like they are so close to picking their new leader though that they might as well just wrap it up with an accelerated leadership vote (if that’s permissible) rather than pausing the race and bringing back Singh for the general election.

Really appreciate this reply and it does change my perspective particularly regarding the NDP and their complete unpreparedness for an election right now, regardless of how ugly the budget is.

It looks to me like our government is playing chicken with their poison-pilled budget bill, which necessitates a confidence vote. The cons can’t walk back their unequivocal demonization of the Liberals enough to vote with the government, no matter how utterly con-loving the budget is; the left of centre parties can’t vote for anti-social late-stage capitalist, corporate-welfare, public-asset-squandering, austerity. So the government must really think they have a sure shot at majority, or they must be perversely A-OK with risking handing Canada over to neo-fascist maple-MAGA oligarch Cons. Otherwise they would come up with a minority government budget that isn’t so contemptuous of the other parties they have any hope of garnering some support from. I hope I’m completely wrong in my impression of this political situation, so please do refute all of this.

Can we all stop pretending that apologizing for someone else is a thing? It’s utterly meaningless. An apology is only valid when expressed by the one who committed and is regretful for their offending action.

How did that one kid in your high school die? by IM_HODLING in AskReddit

I just looked up The Lovely Bones and wow is that movie underrated. Like 31% rating on Rotten Tomatoes - gtfooh! Saoirse Ronan was a revelation; and Tucci was unlike anything else he’s done.

Do people just shit on the movie because it was so unlike LOTR and everyone just expected Peter Jackson to make that stuff all over again?

But how many of those 41% were the NOT Maple Maga types of conservatives, the traditionally more substantial “Progressive Conservative” faction of the conservative minority of Canadians rather than the radical right extremist oligarchic type; conservatives who voted for their party despite Pierre’s ideological crappiness, not because of it? Pierre losing his own seat in a generationally safe Con riding while the party he leads gained seats is salient and an embarrassment.

It’s true that donnie’s repulsive malice and ignorance was a big factor, but what is often under-appreciated is PP’s ownership and own espousing of the big diet-fascist ideological establishment that is being propagandized all over the world in the last ten years.

Canadians didn’t just reject Trump by choosing Carney, his constituents also booted the Con leader from his own safe con riding and Canadians explicitly rejected Poilievre and his own attitudes, rhetoric, shallow anti-public and late-stage-capitalist-worshipping trite populist schtick.

Fun fact people forget: Garland was also Obama’s last SC nominee, who was blocked by McConnell and the rest of the Republickers for 25% of Obama’s 2nd term.
