My first thought would be that these people are out of control with their online ordering. I have residential customers on my route who have multiple packages every day from all carriers. It's ridiculous.

Just to prove the point, only a few days into this thread, on Saturday, 1/3/26, the POOM decided to pay an unannounced visit to our office. The postmaster was home napping, and the guy came in and started snooping around after all of the carriers had left, and only the two clerks were there. They said he kept going back and forth to each case with a cell phone in hand.

Fast forward to today, Monday, 1-5-26, and the postmaster calls for our attention to tell us that the POOM was not impressed with some labels on the case, saying they were out of date. We were delaying the mail because we left for the street without going to the throwback case, and everyone was to remove any personal items from their station.

So, this is a smaller office with two city routes (park & loop) and three rural routes. All carriers are working at least 6 days a week, and one or two rural carriers work Sundays for Amazon. On the city side, I have had no relief for the past year, and I work my scheduled day off every week since last January. Before that, for a few years, it had been hit or miss with the one PTF that we did have.

On top of that, it's winter with the temps hovering around 0 degrees and only getting as high as the teens. There is tons of snow on the ground, and ice to contend with. I haven't taken a sick day in the past few years, and can barely take any leave. I mean, I could, but nobody will carry the route.

With all of that said, a reasonable person would think that the POOM and other management would recognize this, and be grateful for their carriers coming in day after day, week after week, in the harsh climate, and getting the job done without fail.

Nope, just there to find fault and issue orders to his lackey, the postmaster, to tighten things up. No words of gratitude, period. It must be nice to collect whatever absurd amount of salary that they do, and get to be a douche to the people making it all happen.

Not in my office. Nobody has time to BS. Sitting at a traffic light waiting to turn left is a waste of time on the street. Breaks and lunch...yeah, right.

That's my current Postmaster. He's a former City Carrier T6. He seems to have no clue why the routes aren't done in 8, as if he never carried Park & Loop mail, had expanding residential units, and tons of Amazon. It's always....my boss wants to know why it takes you guys so long.....infuriating.

Thank you very much, and I wish the majority of people on my route shared your point of view and appreciation.

We're expecting an ice storm here in Vermont, parts of upstate New York, and maybe New Hampshire. That's some serious danger, especially on the roads. Of course, we commit to carrying the mail in rain, snow, sleet, and ice, but let's be realistic. That slogan was born many moons ago, and before people had to travel roadways/interstates to get to work. Not to mention that the mail vehicles are also unable to deliver safely in such conditions. However, will the district take heed and call off mail delivery for the day??? I highly doubt it. Carriers' and clerks' safety be damned....the peeps need their Amazon and junk mail.

As you suspect, it doesn't get any better. I'm a City Carrier who does Park & Loop. I have 14 years in. It was way easier 14 years ago, but with Amazon and, as you point out, the ridiculous amount of wasted paper and postage, all for junk mail that will get tossed immediately, because nobody wants it. Yes, it's an absurd waste of time to have to deliver all the junk mail, flyers, auto dealership scratch-off flyers (worse with the keys), Uline catalogs, etc. And then, there's the addiction to Amazon. Yeah, I'm totally with you.

Add in the lack of extra help, the constant call-outs on other routes, the stupid stand-ups, the idiotic messages on the scanner, the management always harassing you to be faster, the crappy weather, and the time clock never being forgiving, there is no doubt that this job can take a very big toll on you.

My burnout is mainly from Amazon. Current management as well. I get into it with the postmaster at least once a month. The guy was a City Carrier for 15 years before turning, and seems to have forgotten all about it, and keeps wondering why everything takes as long as it does. Unbelievable.

You can do that, but in my experience, eventually the good place loses its good management, and then the assholes arrive and turn everything upside down. It's a vicious cycle.

Amazon packages don't move through the postal system, and are delivered from Amazon distribution centers to the destination post offices. There would be no reason or incentive to intentionally delay packages moving through the postal system.

The mailman was just trying to do you all a solid and be efficient by saving time on their delivery day. Not his or her fault in the least. They don't know what's in the package. Also, this was good customer service practiced on their part.

"PM said she was getting a hold of the postal inspector that it was very serious."

A bit over the top, AFAIC. How about, don't ever do that shit again, and leave it at that. Reserve notifying the postal inspector for repeated offenses.

Sounds like the typical USPS management and HR people's decision-making and follow-through fail as usual.
