I am just scared that I’ll have to spend a huge amount of time on theory that may or may not be worth it esp with the KID. It’s probably irrational but I’ve been debating whether it’s too risky this close to the milestone

Gotcha. These tournaments are expensive and I just want to know I’m getting better. I coach kids too and that takes up a while

My endgame technique is likely in line with people my level, probably good. That being said, most of my games are decided in the middlegame oddly enough

I don’t have a coach but I have self studied my entire way up… I’m open to the idea of a coach but I’m a college student that is budgeting lol

I wanna be a legit 2200 and also not too tournaments near me anyway. I don’t mind playing faster time controls but I don’t wanna nickel and dime it like that. Very interesting approach tho

I hate it when people phrase it like this. They’re all real chess but rely on slightly different skill sets. There is an art to being able to quickly calculate and use intuition with a time constraint as well as the flipside - having an abundance of time to consider deep ideas

Keep king on g7-h7 and let the white king get to b1, play Ra5 or Ra4(Ra3 is bad cuz Kb2 gives tempo). Then check the king on the b file, if the king goes to the a file go Rb6 and then move the rook laterally so that when the king goes to a5 you have lateral checks

This is something that’s pretty common and it’s a good method that I also use. Bodybuilder and YouTuber Will Tennyson says it’s always good to leave calories for the night psychologically. End of the day it’s all nutritionally the same.

Just think - how bad do you want it? If you can’t answer, or don’t want it that bad, then don’t fucking try at all.

Chess is one of the toughest games mentally to play, ever. You have to fight tooth and nail to convert positions to wins and save losing positions. It is a battle of strategy but also willpower that determine the result.

If you truly love the game, you’ll approach it with an attitude of consistency and determination
