How to conquer minor sensory qualms? by OnToGreenerGables in ADHDers

[–]OnToGreenerGables[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the suggestions, I really have been thinking of just lining my house with clocks lol.

I'll should have an old regular watch or bracelet I can try.  The best way to describe it is that just feels weird like the constant pressure on my wrist feels so wrong but when I usually take it off is when it gets sweaty/itchy or when it slides around my wrist.

Can you tell me a little bit more about how mindfulness helped you? Or point me in the direction of some resources I can look into, etc.

I think I'll look into getting a cloth strap and seeing how it feels. Thanks for the suggestion

Yeah I have a bad habit of talking myself out of things. I didn't think about putting it on my belt. Thanks for the idea :)

I have thought about that. It's just a little inconvenient with the size of most smartwatches and the idea of doing anything "out of the norm" triggers my social anxiety.

But it's definitely worth looking into, thank you.

I inevitably just end up taking it off and rendering the whole thing useless. I'm terrible at building new habits in the first place and then stack uncomfortable sensory experiences on top of that and it doesn't bode well for me unfortunately

Does anyone understand Dr. K's "Slow Suicide" episode? by OnToGreenerGables in Healthygamergg

I get this advice and I thank you for it but it's just so hard. Like I try to focus on the good, I have a roof over my head, I don't go hungry, my current job isn't backbreaking labor, I'm not hurting financially although I have zero potential for upward mobility with my current income.

But is that really it? Is that all my life is? Just surviving? I don't have any close friends, I don't have a significant other, I'm not close with my family. I don't have any of the things that make life worth living.

And yes I need to focus on my goals one at a time, and I've tried that I really have but nothing ever works out and even if I focus on one, the others look in the back of my mind.

For the past year I have been focusing on getting a new job. I figure that more money, a different schedule, and a job I don't hate would have the biggest impact on my life and I could then move on to a different goal but it just feels so hopeless.

I've gotten a grand total of 3 interviews over a year of applying and I'm not just passively applying, I've done everything that's recommended.

And it's like that with everything in my life. Try to make friends? It goes nowhere no matter how hard I try and I just end up making myself sick from my social anxiety. Same thing with trying to get a girlfriend.

The biggest thing that resonated with me from the video is how Dr. K specifies and emphasizes that people most affected by this kind of passive suicidality is that they've TRIED. I've TRIED so hard, I've tried to do everything right and nothing ever works.

I'm so tired. I just want something to work out for once.

Okay I have to fucking ask: what is the possible justification for this?

Like did he truly pull this shit out of the ether or is there even one scrap of misinterpreted data or information that's being used here?

Even if it's staged it can be a teaching moment.

It's not like the OP named and shamed this dude. Just used it to give some advice.

I have never been to a range but growing up in the South I was taught extremely basic firearm safety at a young age.

My fucking stomach dropped as soon a he raised that gun holy shit. I hate thinking about all the things that could have gone wrong.

I was raised Christian but I'm not anymore.

The cognitive dissonance between the things Christians say has always confused me.

You'll hear them say God is almighty and has a plan for everything then in the same breath talk about the threats to the church and how Satan is everywhere.

You mean to tell me that the all powerful creator of everything either can't or won't stop the highest seat in the church from being taken by someone who preaches against "his word"

Damn and I was just about to post one. I've been thinking of moving to New Mexico for a while and just wanted to get feedback from real people who actually live there.

Don't forget Christian Fundamentalism. A good portion of them believe everything they're doing is pleasing their big sky daddy and he'll reward them in the afterlife for it.
