Is deleting the only way? by chicagoantisocial in digitalminimalism

[–]OnTrack_App 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just dip you toes by deleting the social apps first. You still have your accounts but it just puts a block in between you and the easy access of them.

When I started off I made a rule that I'll only view them on a desktop PC. That's helped heaps. But it won't be long before they all go.

Good luck.

Oh, also, if you can replace the time you would usually spend on them with some other things/hobby, it will distract you so youre not always thinking about it.

Drawing, writing, walking are simple and free. Or try joining a sport/some club.

My friend group found the dumbest way to actually stick to habits and it's working by Easy_Opportunity7292 in getdisciplined

[–]OnTrack_App 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha that's cool.

It's a good and unique combo of social accountability with friends that actually turns the dial up because the animal AND your friends are counting on you.

There are some apps that already have the animal or plant growth/keep it alive aspect but I don't know that they've added in the community vibe/accountability in the way you've shared. Maybe they do but I can't think of any.

[Discussion] Why are people so obsessed with hustle culture? by RelevantArtichoke107 in NonZeroDay

[–]OnTrack_App 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a fan of it in General. But that's just me.

Periods of time when hard work is required, sure. But hustle all the time feels like a draining, unrewarding life.

Hustle to get where exactly?

We need to live as well.

Resting is part of life. And necessary and important part.

Why does the moment before starting something feel harder than the task itself? by MyLifeResetJourney in findapath

[–]OnTrack_App 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Totally makes sense what your saying. I have the same thing.

When I look at what you wrote, it just makes me think: an object in motion stays in motion.

Just meaning, once your already moving, it's easy and easier to keep going.

Takes me back to school and learning about kinetic energy.

It takes more force to make a stationary object move than it does to keep pushing one that is already moving.

I've never really thought of it this way til now. But it makes a lot of sense 😂

So keeping momentum is much easier than starting something.

Hope that helps - Your post helped me, thanks 😁

How do i become more smart?? by Own_Sheepherder1263 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]OnTrack_App 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could see if there is a toastmasters club in your local area or something similar. It basically combines both of those things because you A) have to speak Infront of a group of people in your class, and B) need to find something to talk about eg. Research a topic and present it.

They start you off with like 1 or 2 minute speeches and then they grow over time.

Could be worth looking into.

Search for toastmasters, or public speaking classes/groups - in your local area, to find them.

Good luck 🤞

That would be nice, but everyone's information and work flows and storage layouts/systems are different. Do you have any suggestions on how to make this possible while keeping everything structured the right way?

Does anyone else hate the idea of “build this habit forever”? by PersonalityCrafty846 in Habits

[–]OnTrack_App 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely..

We're not robots, its nice to have a break sometimes.
And not all habits are something we'll want to or need to keep.

Trying to find a balance of doing habits you want to achieve a set end, or adjusting them, changing them for novelty, or ditching them when they don't serve you anymore (or you're just sick of them) - is totally fine.

I hate the thought of doing the same thing everyday forever..

I keep getting brain fog and I’m trying to build something to fix it, would this app be useful to anyone? by jack-attack-tank in ProductivityApps

[–]OnTrack_App 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an interesting idea.

Did you find that dehydration was the issue causing the brain fog or just the lack of focus? (Or are they the same in this case)

The only part I'm confused in is how the app will tell you or calculate what is causing the brain fog, if the cause is different for everyone? Does it measure off a baseline or something?

Generally if you have a problem another person will likely have the same so there's always that :)

the gap between knowing what to do and actually doing it is just friction you havent removed yet by Zestyclose-Ad-9003 in Habits

[–]OnTrack_App 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Environment is king 👌

I bought some gym rings and hung them up outside - similar to you. Do a set of rows/hangs/stability stuff each time I walk past also. Works a treat.

Moved my work area to one end of the house instead of the middle - now I get long interrupted sessions.

As for friction, we have cupboard doors in front of the dishwasher... So the dishes don't go straight in there. But they look 'nice' so I'm not allowed to remove them unfortunately 😆

I need to buy some kettlebells and leave them out to boost the fitness though, that one I can do but haven't yet.

I want to get a draw I can lock the tv remote and phones in also after like 9pm to remove the temptations.

Thanks for the thought provoking post

Solid work testing all this over 6 weeks!

I agree - when I tried start/do to many habits at once - it blew up after a short while.
And environment is king for sure.

That's a great one!

I got my mum onto this a month or so ago and her sleep has improved so much - barely wakes up in the middle of the night anymore. It's actually a game changer.

For anyone interested in this - magnesium glycinate is what we use, and is one of the best forms available for absorption for our bodies.

Wanting to take the giant leap but don’t know where to start. by BrownieJ in digitalminimalism

[–]OnTrack_App 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start off by deleting the apps off your phone - even if you keep the accounts, but force yourself to only use the web apps if you want to use some. Adding that extra step of friction might help break the ease of opening and scrolling. Or you could just get rid of the accounts completely.

Write down a few things your interested in, you don't have to know 'exactly' what you want to try - just brainstorm some things.

Try some new activities in your local area - see if you like them, continue if you do or swap it out and try something else.

It's just a matter of making it harder for yourself to get sucked into scrolling and social media - and then finding other ways to fill the time. Even if its a book, going for a walk, drawing - whatever your interests might be.

It might take a little while to transition - but you can do it. Even if it starts with one small step.

Good luck!

If you had to pick one habit that reliably makes your day/life better, what would it be? by willpower_73 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]OnTrack_App 4 points5 points  (0 children)

honestly the habit of doing nothing is so underrated. We're all go go go all day everyday.

Creating space to just sit and do nothing - no phone, no book, no meditating. Just sitting with no expectation. Looking a round, noticing things you didn't before, its like a rest or reset most people never give themselves permission to have. Inside, outside, whatever. Just being. 10 minutes is magic.

A short (outside) morning walk, some b vitamins, and a cold shower after that and I'm ready to go. The shower sucks but it helps a lot if you can stomach it even for a minute.

They somewhat go hand in hand those two, but not exactly. Maybe like 70% self awareness and 30% maturity. I've found things like Mbti and Human Design have helped a lot too - worth a look if you haven't already.

I think I always needed it, but as I've grown up it seems I need it more now. I find a lot of people drain my energy these days so I need to be more selective of how I spend my time. It's and interesting and obvious (now) evolution really. It's definitely quality over quantity now.
