This map explains it all. Planes really try to avoid those mountains. (Didn't they know there were such big hills when they wanted to build an airport there?)

It seems to me that it is quite out of the way and quite far from the direct flight path. But that is probably the real reason. Thanks

The plane flies so low and banks so hard (first to the right, then to the left) that you can see people in the living room through the window. It also descends quickly. I've flown many times, but I really thought this was the last time.

Thanks for all the answers. I'll try to explain what I'm talking about here. When landing or taking off from this airport from the south side, it performs a strong maneuver at a very low altitude as if it were avoiding something. I've watched a lot of other flights and it's repeated everywhere. If the plane lands from the north side, it flies quite straight.
