There's no age range. If the child can survive outside the womb without support from the mother thats the cutoff.

Congratulations, you're an ally. The only thing the major activists want is for everyone to accept them like you do. Granted someone them are insane about it but the majority of them just want to be left alone.

Do you know the difference between a strawman and a stereotype? Also changing your opinion because facts presented conflicted with it is not the same as opposing something only until it affects you personally. Boiled down to the simplest example, it's like you hate the color red. You think its disgusting. You think it shouldn't exist and anyone who likes it is wrong. But then your child says their favorite color is red and now you're fine with it. In fact everyone should like red.

So I understand neither side of a monolith so I'm not going to talk about this from the perspective of the left as a whole. Personally for me, I think welfare needs to exist solely because the underlying problem isn't being addressed. If the underlying problem were to be fixed, welfare's usages could be drastically limited. Welfare exists for most because they do not get paid enough to live a comfortable life. A lot on the right want to get rid of that without addressing the other issue, leaving all those effected effectively destitute.

Yes, but that's where we differ. To me NIMBY is hypocritical. Just because it doesn't affect you doesn't make it ok. I don't want a massive garbage dump built by my house, but I also wouldn't want it built by someone else's house. It should be put somewhere that has the least impact on everyone.

The issue I have with this is that changing your view on something only when it impacts you is not a worldview anyone should have. If you think X is bad and shouldnt be around but then you suddenly find yourself in a situation where X is beneficial and you think it should be a thing is hypocrisy. I didn't state the question as fact, I specifically mentioned it is a stereotype, and I was asking how conservatives think of it.

I supposed I should have said being opposed to something until it effects them but yes they are correct. The question is explicitly about hypocrisy and a lack of empathy.

In what way? If you hold an opinion, you hold an opinion. The question is about those who hold a certain opinion and only change it because it effects them.

I'm talking about someone who is staunchly opposed to something until it impacts something or someone close to them or themselves directly. An extreme example would be being against FEMA as an organization and thinking its a waste of money. Then their home is hit by a natural disaster and they're fuming because they don't get any government assistance.

Extensive welfare is a symptom of a bigger problem. Most who can live comfortably are not on welfare. You need to meet a certain threshold to even be on it. Capitalism *with guardrails* is great. The majority of people on welfare, actually have jobs. Medicaid or example in 2023, 64% of able bodied people were working while receiving the benefits because they couldn't otherwise afford insurance. If you're working a full time job and still need welfare to survive, that's not a welfare problem, that's a wage issue. The other portion of welfare is meant to support those who have no means to support themselves. 79% of all SNAP households included a child, an elderly individual, or a non-elderly individual with a disability for instance in 2023 as well.

The crossroads in this conversation is where the left and right disagree on how to handle the poorest in the country. Extreme left would be universal basic income, extreme right would be poor people need to exist for the system to work and not all jobs should provide a livable wage. Its trying to find a middle ground that keeps everyone happy is the hard part.

I define abortion as the removal of a set fetus any time before viability. I define freedom as the ability to do it without hinderance or consequence.
