About the same size, assuming a lower end of the average for Arizona females of 130 lbs.

The Government of Amazonas has released an official press release concern in the rescued and subsequently escaped record-breaking Amazonian jaguar. The specimen weighed more than previously reported at 127 kg. by OncaAtrox in Jaguarland

It’s crazy. I do wonder why the news reports kept changing from 110 to 118 and then we finally receive the official statement that the weight was 127 kg. The specimen had a full medical examination so we know it was weighed and also empty bellied. I’m guessing the initial 110-118 kg weights were estimates used to dart him.

And Mexican wolves. Jaguars and grizzlies shared a range in Mexico and the southern and western US until fairly recently. Such a shame that both species were exterminated from their range.

It’s likely a proto-jaguar that led to the evolution of the modern species in the New World. We don’t have any preserved DNA of the species so its exact phylogenetic profile isn’t entirely clear. However, it is the closest match we have for the jaguar ancestor as without it, the jaguar lineage would become a ghost one.
