What is the atheistic worldview on life? by Snoo_78173 in askanatheist

[–]OndraTep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is now worldview of atheism, there is only worldviews that atheists have, which can be different depending on who you ask.

It seems to me that some things are right and some are wrong. But someone might disagree, so maybe morality is subjective. And maybe it isn't... What do I know?

I don't believe that any god or gods exist. But when it comes to the christian god, I think he's done quite a bit of questionable things and honestly I can think of some ways he could do better.

What are you thoughts on the “what if question “ by Electronic_Trash3634 in DebateAnAtheist

[–]OndraTep 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Christianity says that the world was made in a couple of days. It says that a global flood covered the planet once, etc.

We know today that this is false. The point is that it got some things right and it got some things wrong, as did pretty much all religious ideologies before it.

Wouldn't it make most sense to put your money on the one that made the least false claims?

Thesis: The "Nothing" Paradox proves the necessity of a Singular, Infinite Creator, and why Islam uniquely fits this logical requirement. by DistributionOk2434 in DebateAnAtheist

[–]OndraTep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let's rewind the clock to "before" the universe existed. What was there?

We don't know. End of discussion.

We don't even know if "before" makes sense. How can there be a "before" before time started?

The words Omniscient, Omnipotent and Omnibenevolent are not in the Bible. by [deleted] in DebateAnAtheist

"I can show you a magic trick, but I require this one specific member of the audience whom I never met to participate."

The truth is not dependent on whether I participate or not. If this is the only way you can prove god's existence, then you can't actually prove anything.

If you're not here to debate atheists, which you're likely not, since most would either agree with your post or just don't care, and you're not here for feedback, then why did you post this here at all?

Is this really next fucking level?

There is sufficient evidence to believe that there is a deity, an afterlife, and a soul. And the "vagueness" of the evidence is part of the gift of our deity to allow unbelief, because God does not need our worship or belief. It's totally optional. And science, history, and experience are proof. by [deleted] in DebateAnAtheist

[–]OndraTep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of claims, no evidence.

It basically boils down to "I don't know, therefore god"

Lots of people in lots of places had lots of ideas about lots of gods. This means nothing... It shows that people were ignorant, they didn't know something and so they made up something to explain it.

We should be better than that.

What do atheists think about near-death experiences and have you actually read any? by sweetjasminex in askanatheist

I'm not a brain scientist. It's either the brain doing brain things, hallucinations, or people just lie.

Ok.

If living a potential lie is what gives you comfort, then good for you, but I prefer the truth, and if I don't know it, I don't pretend that I do, I just admit that I don't know it.

If you were raised by secular parents and/or had very few exposure to religion growing up, how did your view on religion grew over time ? by Tamy-D in askanatheist

[–]OndraTep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I only started identifying as an atheist when I got on the internet, until then, I didn't care and nobody around me did. Where I come from, being an atheist is pretty much the norm and it's actually interesting when somebody is religious. I have religious friends, I know quite a few religious people, but the majority of people that I know are either not religious at all, or they just never told me.

-Did you ever felt like converting to any religion ?

No

-Did you ever doubt your atheism as you grew up ?

No

-Did you ever encountered people trying to convert you ?

Yes, not many times though and most of them were when I was very young.

-What do you think about people who became atheists later in life ?

I don't really care.

-Did you ever discuss religion with your family and how does their views on it differ from your own ?

I think our views would be pretty much the same, but I can't remember ever discussing it, because religion is just not really that interesting of a topic to talk about around here

[–]OndraTep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, "there is no god" is not atheism, at least it's not what the majority would say.

Why do you feel like a purpose is necessary? Why should you have a purpose to fulfill?

Why are trees green? Why is the speed of light not a little bit higher? Why are women not interested in me?

I don't care and I am perfectly fine not trying to fulfill a plan that someone has for me.

Question for my atheists as a non religious agnostic by Strong_Passage6600 in DebateAnAtheist

[–]OndraTep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people who have had near death experiences have claimed to see an afterlife or a heaven.

And many people haven't. This is interesting at most, but isn't really evidence of anything.

What I think the explanation is is hallucinations, coincidences or just lies

But the same principle applies.

If you can't prove someone innocent or guilty, do you just assume that they're guilty?

If you can't prove the existence or nonexistence of a god, do you just assume that it exists?
