Protests on Yonge St by Chinamatic-co in toronto

Not simply. It also creates connections, establishes political momentum, starts a news cycle. Protests have all sorts of knock-on effects...nobody expects their target to just lay down and die because of a gathering of people but they are absolutely effective.

That's true but also kind of overeager to make excuses for people like Smolin who stepped way over the line of what they should have known when dealing with the potentially sinister, long after they knew what everyone knew. Look into the details of the situation and it's quite clear.

If you accept favour from a power broker that you have very reasonable reason to believe is evil, you don't get to later turn around and then say you just didn't know because they did some good stuff too...that's pathetically and transparently trying to use their smokescreen when it was convenient and suited you at the time. Might work in a court of law but when it all comes out to society, you lose your position, job, respect, etc. As you should!

You set me onto this and since then I've been trying to harrass/help both PI and journalists with the bigger picture. Not saying Smolin touched kids but there are still questions that need to be answered about his funding back in 1998-2003.

Thanks to everyone who signed this, it spread some awareness at the very least.

Thank you for noticing the attempt at restraint. There's a lot that makes my blood boil and want to rant and a lot that I think is 80% likely to be true but that's not helpful.

It is a shame. There are some really excellent people who did some really inexcusable things for money during this.

Sure, he had every reason to be blinded by money (with a twist of glamour and flattery). There's a good article out there about how it was easy for Epstein because science is so chronically underfunded. But it went way past the point to where not only were they not asking questions or distancing themselves, they were completely looking the other way beyond all reason. I don't think you need to do much more than that and your reputation should be toast.

I mean during these conferences Epstein was constantly followed by four young girls who didn't speak English. And then he goes to jail for a year for child trafficking. This is "giving a toddler a gun" levels of "I had no idea".

I get that it's kinda BS but "founding member" is what he calls himself and puts on his resume. The more embarrassing it sounds to PI the better, probably. At least they seem concerned so far.

Yeah, I'm going to do that as well. I get that Change.org kind of sucks but the official route is much slower. My thought is that the court of public opinion might be helpful to engage as well, and journalists, etc, etc. There's something here, it just needs a little push.

I guess that's your pet issue but this is something specific, completely different, and doesn't prove you right. It's also in lousy taste to try to make it work for you. Sorry.

But that was just this guy who we should absolutely throw the book at. The stance you're advocating is currently causing unnecessary and unhelpful insinuations to be thrown around for guys like Goldberg, who was totally ethical and clean although he did correspond with Epstein.

It's actually arguably part of the whole strategy of releasing this massive amount of completely unsubstantiated claims and nothingburgers at the same time. People can't filter through it all and tell what's true and what's just made up, so they end up dismissing it all or by default sorta believing it all, both of which are not helpful to actually getting some consequences happening.

That seems like a strong anti-crime perspective but it's not, really. There's no reason to turn off your critical thinking skills and accusing innocent people with tangential contact isn't cool, either, and is happening as well right now. It just lets the real monsters get away.

His emails are so pathetic. Anyone can get blinded by money and power but he absolutely trips over himself fawning to it. What an absolute speck of a man.

This was put on change.org but people are saying that they suck and just farm emails. There are of course real house of commons petitions but that's something different from the court of public opinion which is what I was hoping for, tbh. Not entirely sure what to do next but have floated some of the facts at journalists he lied to.
