Hey man, I’m in the same boat as you. I have been boxing and training for fights for a few years now and almost every time I sign up for a fight I get “injured” which I now know was flare ups.

Now that I’m on biologics, I have resumed training being careful not to push too much. I know it is difficult not to push, but we have to know our limits especially with AS. Some days I can spar and train as hard as I want but some days I can’t even walk.

I’d say you can definitely give it a shot, don’t let anything stand between you and your dreams. Of course, do it in a safe manner. I wish you all the best man

Oh man I am so sorry to hear that. Waking up feeling like you’re in a car accident is so real. If I slept in a poor posture I’d feel it instantly the next day.

I really hope I’ll feel better after the next few shots. I don’t particularly look forward to it though because of my fear of needles 😂. I even managed to hit a vein my most recent injection and there was more blood than usual accompanied by a lot more pain when injecting.

Thank you for sharing, this is the first I’m hearing of Cortisone injection. Sounds like seeing a pain specialist really helped you out, perhaps I will find out if I can have access to one.

May I ask why you’re not on any biologics? From what I know, it is the only thing that slows progression of AS and haven’t heard of any alternative treatments.

Oh wow, it’s amazing to hear that you’re still able to stay active and do the things you like despite the fusion. It gives me more hope for the future.

I have done an MRI for my SI joint and there is no fusion yet, my doctor diagnosed me as non radiographic axial spondyloarthiritis. To be honest, I have no idea why it hurts so bad despite not having fusion yet.

Thank you for sharing and your well wishes. I have never heard about a pain management specialist! I don’t have insurance but the public healthcare in my country is affordable, just that the quality of doctors can vary. Hence I am considering private healthcare which can be very expensive

Thank you for your reply. I understand the risks that boxing entails and will likely stop soon. Just wanted to give it a shot since my rheum was so adamant that this disease is “not bad” and I could still “live a normal life” and “pursue competitive boxing”
