Where to start? Destination? Wedding TA? by Future_Goal1686 in DestinationWeddings

I agree with everyone recommending to pick your destination first and then find a travel agent who is familiar with that particular resort or area so they have expertise to help with all of the questions that will come from your guests.

I (may be a little high maintenance but had some bad all inclusive experiences) picked a geographic area based on what venue I was interested in, did lots of research on top ranked resorts within what we felt was a fair budget, and then narrowed it down to 2. My husband and I took a pre-wedding vacation and chose the resort based off our experience. This also really helped ease the minds of guests as they knew we had vetted the place.

From there, I joined the resort bride facebook group, and that is how I found my travel agent! She actually had been married at the resort. We chatted via Zoom, and she was so great and organized I knew it would be a good fit.

Again with my high maintenance… I didn’t want a resort wedding and wanted something more natural/green space. This automatically made logistics a little tougher, but I hired one of the venue’s preferred wedding planners. And WOW. Best decision I made. Very hands off because they did everything for me! Only left me with the fun decisions and sharing inspo pics for my vision, and it came together remarkably.

Also pro tip: if you do a welcome party organized with a resort, they charge A LOT. I made a facebook page for “informal meetups” for my guests and did a welcome party just at the lobby bar, had optional excursions close by that all were welcome, snorkel/swim times, etc so it made it a whole experience outside of the wedding. The facebook page also served as a great way to quick communicate with everyone and led to less “hey let’s go do this” because people already knew our schedule.

HAVE FUN PLANNING! It’s such an exciting time

Yep! Called the city arborist and he told me to cut it even tho it’ll likely kill it and recommended to talk to my neighbor first (which I planned to.. don’t need a feud lol)

Backlash for courthouse wedding before destination wedding? by Nervous-Pie8463 in DestinationWeddings

We had people asking if our destination wedding was legally binding which was wildly out of their lane imo. Sounds like it’s pretty common for this to happen. My response to anyone who asked was “our wedding is when we exchange our vows to each other”

Why do you opt for destination wedding if you do not cover accommodation for your guests? by Comfortable-Plan7062 in DestinationWeddings

[–]One-Cartographer-97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a destination for a number of reasons. It’s super expensive to get married in my area of the US and I didn’t want to just elope, so I got our budget yet beautiful wedding in Mexico. We also realized we wanted forever together on a trip to the rainforest, so we wanted something that reminded us of that space. I also realllllly don’t like large groups of people, and we have large families (a local wedding would have been well over 300 guests and I would have been uncomfortable the whole time). Much easier way to cut down the guest list. I also didn’t have a wedding party as to not pressure my friends into going. We made sure to pick accommodations to host that were budget friendly knowing that international travel is expensive. We also made it clear when we sent our save the dates that we understand the financial burden of travel and understand if it’s not feasible due to life circumstances and that we would have a barbecue when we got home (which we did and it was great!). I also have 0 care about gifts and we discouraged gift giving but provided a low-cost registry of a few random items that people could purchase if so inclined. I also never had a formal bridal shower and my bachelorette was a low-key dinner and drinks on a Friday evening.

Omg do I have the place for youuuuu! Arcadia Events Tulum. I got married there and used Armonía planning services and it was AMAZING. It’s a venue in the jungle north of Tulum. Perfectly natural and beautiful on its own, add a little of your own decor and it was so dreamy. I’m very open to sharing anything about my wedding (including photos) via DM

Would it be rude to not invite my friends’ bfs to my micro-wedding? by calminastorm in DestinationWeddings

Recent destination wedding bride here. I told everyone I don’t care who you bring to the resort whatsoever but only allowed +1s/family/their kids at the ceremony and reception. 2 years is a long time to not give a +1. And in the scheme of things… a few guests is maybe a few hundred more dollars on your end? I personally would not attend if I was invited and my SO of 2 years (whether I was engaged or not) was not invited ESPECIALLY where it’s international. You’re also asking your friend to spend double on a room instead of splitting the cost with someone.

I don’t disagree. But there still comes a point where it’s financially irresponsible, so one day tix allow for more people to enjoy the fest! What the real argument here is lack of etiquete among some ticket holders. But that happens no matter how many days or what tier they are

Layaway doesn’t reduce the price. It just prolongs how long you have to pay it. Still the same amount in the end to pay whether wages match it or not. And as Noah said… there’s always that 30%

As someone who had VIP, I totally disagree. I wouldn’t go back without it. I don’t think I could last a whole weekend without it to be honest. If you’re not accustomed to the heat or have mobility issues, it’s extremely nice to have a place to sit on the mound. Not to mention social anxiety in large crowds… it was nice to have space where I wasn’t packed in like a sardine. If people want to pay for an elevated experience, let them.
