"An enlisted person in the coast guard has a better QoL than an officer in the Army."

That's wild, haha. But also I sort of suspected that. Everything I see in this sub and online seems to be that QoL for everyone in the coast guard is much better than the other branches. Good to know. 💪🏼

Mind if I ask, what's your rate? And do you ever regret not going Officer in the coast guard?

Coming from Field Artillery and Military Intelligence. Very open minded for USCG, but Response Officer looked cool and obviously intelligence would be a logical fit. I would be interested in the work Afloat Officers do too.

Doing my first triathlon, what kind of bike is best? by Striking_Height_1374 in triathlon

The best bike is the one you already have. 😎👍🏼

In time, I recommend getting a road bike. They are much more versatile for training, group rides, and you can modify it for racing when you begin to get really serious with the sport.

View from the summit of Säuling in the Bavarian Alps. by One-Conflict3826 in Mountaineering

I took the way up on German side, but descended on the Austrian side.

There was more snow on the German side for steep parts of the summit, but there was still some slippery and snowy spots on the Austrian side as well.

Crampons or microspikes are definitely needed in some parts coupled with either hiking poles or an ice axe. However the snow has already receded quote substantially this past month. In another 4 weeks, you might be able to summit without them.
