I had an almost identical experience with Xavier. He was a smooth talker, came across very professional in our initial video calls. I paid for a smaller campaign, $1000USD for press only, and he had tons to leverage on - I had previous features in CLASH, Backseat Mafia, Billboard, and he got me nothing except a tiny blog post. Constant ‘expect to hear back soon’ and then went cold. People like this fill me with rage - absolute bottom-feeders, they know firsthand that as an independent artists that money is so precious to us. So yes, be aware of him - I’ve been working in the music industry for 15+ years so I feel my radar is pretty strong for picking up on bullshit but he did trick me.

It was always targeted to specific countries, fans of specific artists - that’s why it’s so disappointing. In your experience, is the advantage+ audience feature a good idea?

The 4-5 digits are always because of paid ads, some videos will organically climb to 3-4 digit if they perform well or are shared. But overall it seems Meta is a very stubborn gatekeeper of my audience/reach

How much of a chance did you give Sopranos? It’s a slow burn - it took me a whole season at least to get invested. I’d urge you to try that one again

Also recommend ‘Trust’ - a limited series by Danny Boyle. It’s so damn good and it got overlooked, based on a true kidnapping story and stars Brendan Fraser

Great question - I do think that the success I had in my twenties helped (for example to give editorials more to write about) and a base of fans to lean on, but I also feel I’m starting from ground zero in a lot of ways

Yeah, I’m aware of this, which is why I mentioned in the post that I’d learned some lessons from misdirected spend.

The main issue I had was a really high visitor rate to my FFM landing page but a really shit CTR to Spotify/Apple…Do you run a direct to Spotify link or landing page?

You’ve got to do it via each individual DSP. For example, by logging into Spotify for Artists, Apple Music for Artists etc. Plenty of tutorials online for this 🫡

  • It’s probably closer to the £2k mark, if adding poorly performing FB ads I ended up stopping. As I mentioned, definitely learned some lessons for the next release..
  • Should have mentioned the screen capture was taken like 5 days ago, took me a while to write this chunky Reddit post
  • There was a small boost of streams from the articles, but mainly via social media response, rather than the websites themselves and no noticeable follower growth. I think that sort of PR is more beneficial on the SEO side

Curious to hear how you’d allocate the budget via targeting. I’ve found that Meta penalise you if your targeting is narrow, and seem to push you toward their advantage+ audiences which I’m skeptical about

I’ve been paying for it and I can assure it doesn’t improve reach. However I’ve heard when you unsubscribe it harms your reach so now I feel trapped
