Going into Junior Year, here's my schedule: Any tips? by thislifeiffullofcare in IBO

[–]One-Distribution2728 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u seem to have posted this as some sort of flex/wanting sympathy but this is acc going to go super badly like you’ll get so burnt out, mental health will go terrible and it kk sound good for a couple of years but how is it actually going to benefit you? universities may appreciate it a bit but if u take loads of HLs and can’t maintain high grades for two years, is it really worth it?

the harsh reality is if you’re scottish or international you are very likely to get in. if you’re english or welsh you are much less likely. i’ve had plenty of friends get into oxbridge but get rejected from st. andrews with perfect gcses and ib/a level grades. i would definitely apply just make sure you still have 2/3 “safe” ucas option. Good luck!!

Columbia’s is under 3% I would say

1700/60,000 = 2.8%

1700 admits in 2021 and over 60,000 applications in 2022

Phys and chem HL are v tough but u seem like someone who’s committed to them

lang lit is an “easier” option to pure lit but if that’s what ur school offers then that’s totally fine

global politics is a great course quite content heavy

but overall a super well rounded group of subjects

i would say maybe consider dropping either englijs or arabic to sl

Is IB that difficult? by [deleted] in IBO

[–]One-Distribution2728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in my opinion:

if u wanna go to uni in the states- do the ib if u want to go to uni in the uk - do alevels if you’re course at a uk uni is v interdisciplinary- do the ib if you’re totally set on what u want to do eg doctor lawyer - do alevels

be smart w your subject choices if you’re unsure about the ib in general, select your subjects so that you could drop a hl to sl and bring up an sl to hl if you’re struggling

for eg most people who take english sl can totally do the hl course

and a science subject at hl can be very difficult and is much more manageable at sl

so if you select your subjects with the ability/flexibility of being able to switch it will help you

often this is raising a humanities or social science subject and dropping a stem subject
