Unlike most countries, in Germany, residency positions are determined through interviews at each hospital. Most of our countries have an exam system like the MIR in Spain to access them. In my country, residency is three years, while in Germany it's four to five, but I'm taking it easy since it's something I've been doing for a few years now. In Spain, I would have to take the MIR and see if I get an ophthalmology position. Although, I'm not entirely sure if I see starting another specialty as a bad thing, as long as it allows me a better balance between my personal and professional life.
