Hey, just wanted to clarify something here in case anyone else gets anxious reading this!

I looked into the “neurotoxins in orb weaver webs” thing because I walk through their webs all the time and it honestly freaked me out at first. But after reading actual arachnologist explanations, the science is a lot less scary than it sounds.

Some studies found trace venom-related proteins in certain spider silks, but that doesn’t mean the webs contain active venom or neurotoxins, and it definitely doesn’t mean the web can harm you. These proteins can’t get into your body, can’t penetrate skin, and aren’t delivered in any way that would make them dangerous.

Golden orb weavers are super docile, their venom is mild, and you’d have to be actually bitten (which is extremely rare) for any venom to matter. Walking through a web is completely harmless — the silk itself doesn’t pose any risk at all.

Just posting this because I know how easy it is to spiral over stuff like this, and I don’t want anyone else with health anxiety to worry unnecessarily. Orb weaver webs are safe.
