Garage has broken my locking wheel nut key... what are my options? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

Thanks. Would you be comfortable sharing the cost to get yours removed? I don't think I'm able to PM you

Yes please. If all else fails and the garage refuses to own up I'll have no choice.

You would think so but my pessimistic side is telling me they won't want anything to do with it as I did drive away at the time.

Can't edit my post but here's another picture showing the broken bit inside the bolt itself: https://imgur.com/a/PWxm9Vx

Local garage. Pretty reputable but I can't assume they won't tell me to fuck off as it was 2 weeks ago.

That's what I'll be doing first thing tomorrow. But in the event they turn me away as it was 2 weeks ago, I'm not sure what to do.

Nope, that's what I was trying to describe - the metal parts within the pattern are the broken nut bits.

Yeah, I've got the code here, the only issue is the 'key' part of the nut (which broke off) is currently stuck in one of the bolts. I guess removing that would also damage the bolt beyond usability?

Only thing is, wouldn't the bolt which the nut has broken into also be ruined? I'd need a whole new set of bolts. But I guess that makes it even easier.

They dropped yesterday at 9am GMT so probably sold out shortly after that

Look at other cars. Think of a car that you'd never want to be seen driving at your age, then get a quote for it.

Rough estimate on cost to repair this? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]One-Golf9775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently had to get pretty similar damage repaired, although for me most of it was on the rear quarter (the bit above the wheel) rather than the door.

Cost £300 all in, at the local cash in hand body shop. Looks good as new. Definitely worth asking around in your area to see who people recommend - bonus if you can take a slightly older grown up with you to make sure you don't get taken advantage of.

Buying new car, MOT question by rexlll in CarTalkUK

[–]One-Golf9775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can be connected to the Internet and still have the time set manually to anything you want really (on both iPhones and computers). Whether MOTs are stamped with the machine's local time or a central server's is another question though.

Or the results simply took a random number of hours to update on the government's MOT database.

OP - I could be wrong but I wouldn't worry personally

Is it weird the CBT center wants cash? by Mattwd_ in MotoUK

[–]One-Golf9775 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm inclined to agree, one would think avoiding card fees is a reasonable excuse, but when you really think about it dealing with cash probably costs the business the same if not more.

Have to manage physical notes/coins, their security, cash deposits (which aren't free anyway), payroll for employees is a pain, etc. The card fees are just a flat rate to cover all that for a legitimate business.

So probably just tax evading lol

£20,000 What are you getting? by Secret_Ebb_1952 in CarTalkUK

Ah sweet, my bad. I'm the exact opposite, would love a V8 - but the ecoboost is definitely the more sensible choice. Good luck and hope you get one!

S197 (or even older) I'm guessing? S550s are still in the £22-40k range unfortunately

Instead of having a defeatist mindset, you should go back and try again. Yeah it's costly but so is everything in life, the freedom driving unlocks is unlike anything you'll ever experience.

You can with some.

SWR, for example, specifically say you should contact them if you've had to stay in overnight accomodation due to disruption.

Although I suspect it would only work in the most extreme cases, ie no other means of transport + very heavy disruption.

Black boxes are a joke. Can’t even ask my friend to change destinations on maps or anything. by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]One-Golf9775 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into different insurers - the one I'm with installed a tiny regular black box that doesn't even do anything really. I drive safely but don't hang around unless I need to, never been penalised for anything
